This Topic Needs Some Lovin'

Post by Merdoc on Wed Jul 25, 2012 9:17 pm

I just looked up the rules for Combat Patrols and it seems pretty interesting. Me and some of my friends from my local game store were going to get into Necromunda, but this seems better.
Anybody here have any experience with Com Patrols?

Well, i'm no expert on combat patrol but i know this.

Necromunda and combat patrol are NOT the same. Yes perhaps if you count the fact that a small group of models fight another small group of models in a miniature game.

But that would make games like warmachine similar as well. And i assure you, it's very different.

The main focus of necromunda is the gang, the hardships it endures and the spoils of war it grasps.
Whilst the main focus of combat patrol (IIRC) is a fast paced squad action game, which is centered on fast gameplay.

Another thing is that every individual in necromunda gets personal Exp, and develops skills that become very characterful after a few battles. When the survivors become your own mini-heroes and you rejoice with a victory much more than with a standard 40k game.

It's mainly this, necromunda has lots of more stuff, is sadly a very old game and therefore only its many fans update it with fan supplements. It can be horribly unbalanced since the equipment costs are based on fluff, not balance and it can really bog gameplay down when you realize that the main form of exp is from hitting your foe (not shooting him/her down, hitting.)

Combat patrol is much simpler, but doesn't have the same deep.

Bloody heck, necromunda has several comics with deep (sort off anyway) story.
Characters like The redeemer, Kal Jericho and a few other i don't remember are the "heroes".

I suggest you get a hold of the 40k "the redeemer" comic. (You figure out how in this age of internet Rolling Eyes ) and read it. It's a real treat and explains some of the necromunda story.

Me and my buddies were thinking of somehow adapting Necromunda rules so we can use the models that we already have. You can buy Necro minis on the GW website, but they come in sets of 8 with 1 leader, 1 heavy, 2 juves, and 4 gangers all with randomized weapons. Making it rather inconvenient if you want to stay WYSIWYG.
I love the added RPG feel to 40K, and our local game store has tons of ruins and other related scenery.

Wait for it.....

Inquisimunda, basically necromunda with any models you want with any faction.

Saves you some time.

As said, the fanbase is strong.

yeah, combat patrol is basically smaller 40k, necromunda and mordheim(mordheim being my prefered game of the two ) are the true skirmish RPG's or GW.
