Post by hardrainfalling Fri May 06, 2011 9:10 am

okay planning a big apoc battle later in the year , my GK will be facing warhound and reaver titans plus greater brass scorpions and possibly baneblades and other super heavies
We have strong fortress walls but a long table will give enemy titans use of the long range guns (will have imperial guard artillery support and a few titans of our own)
So whats the best way to hunt the big boys?

I was thinking dreadknights with teleporters to get close (and inside the void shields Cool )
armed with daemon hammers (as will be handy vs the daemon engines)

Paladin squads with the odd hammer too although psycannons once close enough should take down void shields nicely

Apocalypse doesnt use the force org chart so i am saying 12 or so Dreadknights with personal teleporters and Nemisis Doomfists. 3 teams of 4, each one takes a different warmachine and charge.

I am not an APOC player, but what about SRs with Terminator/Paladin squads and Dreads?
Get the GKTs and Dreads there quickly, drop them off, kill the big stuff, and then cause a rucus in the enemies flanks!!!

Just be careful with alot of infantry at their bases.

The stomp attack will rip them to shreds unless they have a nice INV save.
Gargantuan creature attacks on every model in base contact, this will probably not be to horrible becouse of titans low ws, but it will probably kill of a few.

Plus that you automatically get thrown out of CC in the end of the assult phase will leave yuo open to its guns if you are not careful.

It's a general advice to handle super heavies with caution Razz

I actually think this is kind of a tough one. I had a titan on my side in my last apoc game and the thing I feared most from the other side were the THSS Termies. Sadly we didn't get the SS's so you'll have to survive all the incoming fire from supporting units in between rounds of combat with/against baneblades and titans. I think the NDK's w/teleporter are a great idea.

NDK's for titans
GKT or Paladins for baneblades

If you decide to hunt titans with GKT's then I'd definitely invest in a warding staff which should work against the stomp attack.

Interceptor squads with psycannnons might work too.

Baneblades are much easier to deal with due to their lower rear armour and lower strength weapons (titans normally only have D stuff, baneblade cannon at least have a STR value)

The deep strike will outflank the titans (just be careful of any infantry supporting it) and they are severily hampered up close due to their towring monstrosity rule.

Just be careful, this is apocalypse, you can't really do much when that warlord throws a volcano cannon hit on your paladins, they are gone.
Likewise, out of nowhere 100 khorne beraerkers can outflank your lines and take the fight to you.

What i suggest is that you actually have some superheavies yourselves, and have them fight the enemy supreheavies.

Titans vs titans, supertanks vs supertanks and the likes, this is what truly makes an epic battle, a warlord spending an entire game shooting infantry is far less cool than two warlords duking it out while hundreds of troops fight underfoot, a slight miscalculated shot killing off whole sections of troops as god machines do war!

Don't get too involved in trying to solve what unit is best vs which in apocalypse, powergaming is not something that should happen in apocalypse, it is the place for awesome!

Try to get this idea through to your friends and opponets, and you should have a truly epic game waiting on you!

Because if you want to, you can just take like... a bazillion oblitherators.
Infantry will have a hard time, their lascannons will PWN super heavies and it will just be boring, i didn't come up with any truly broken things but if think about it, you can go wild in the broken section, and that's just boring.

That can be easily fixed.
If, as Grey Knights we deploy Dread Knights to face more powerful foes, then why can't we escalate our force in relation to that of our enemies? = Titan v's Titan Twisted Evil

The thing is not that it doesn't fit bringing titans to fight deamons, it is a good idea, bring the best war machines in the galaxy to fight the worst enemy in the galaxy.

Seems smart, and it mostly is.

It's the grey knight titan thing, there is only one kind of titan and that is adeptus mechanicus titans, other factions kindly ask the collegia titanica if they can borrow some (or tell them that it is of their interest to fight here, or the classic "-OVER THERE!! STC!!!!")

It hurts my mechanicus loving parts alot when people bring up space marine titans.
They doesn't exist, and i'm a whiner.

After all, the titan legion colour schemes are often cooler than the astartes colour schemes anyway.
This doesn't stop some of the titans painted as space marine titans from beeing cool, but they are still wrong.

what about a greyknight fellblade?

couldnt the inquistion request a titan and crew for one ultimate bad assness is required?

yes mainly it will be titan vs titan etc but we have found that a band of terminators with thunder hammers if they can get in can really take down a titan fast

stomp attack is nasty but its only 1 attack per model in base contact and at not a great WS , warding stave will be useful though here. teleporting within the void shields with psycannons will be nasty too or even using psycannons to take down the voids but your big guns open fire

yes i can field what i want in apoc but who the hell has the money to have 12 dreadknights ! or the time to build them

(realising that i have 6 wraithlords Smile )

one word of warning close combat wont work vs eldar titans as they are far too fast to catch

The Mechanicus has a Psy-Titan division of the Collegio Titanicus, which just happens to be based in the Sol system, but not on Mars. These Titans are only doled out for use in specific fights where and when they are needed most.

And since the Grey Knights are really the only body militant with the resources and doctrine to locate and arrive a daemonic infestations in a timely manner, I'd say that Psy-Titans are a tool GK's can count on in a fight.

Psy-Titans were always armed with a Titan-sized Psycannon, a Sanctum Sanctorum of their back, and one other arm weapon of your choice, back in the old days of Epic. Glorier Fides is actually on the small side, as Psy-Titans were a Warlord variant. However, we have Glorier's rules, and he is a sweet titan.

Never knew what kit the psy-titans had.

Only ever seen them on a small note in a compendium someone did about mechanicus.

Cool to get some more info on that.
And yes, Gk will witht the help of the inquisition requisition help from the mechanicus.
And some titans are probably in practise always in the field with a marine force.

But all titans are in the end adeptus mechanicus ones.

The Sanctum Sanctorum held a battle psyker unit, which were use specifically to charge the Psycannon (which fired psychic "bolts" of energy that ignored armor and shields) as well as shielded the Psy-Titan from attacks (increased save). I don't remember if they had a Titan-sized force weapon option, but I do remember that all of the other Warlord arm weapon options were available.

Not sure how I'd stat one out in the current Apocalypse format. Probably just use one of the single-shot, Str D warlord arm weapons for the Psycannon and might have the Sancturom let you use two "psychic powers" of your choice, which you have to select from the carapace weapons list (since you technically "lose" both carapace weapons). For the remaining arm I'd go with a Titan Close Combat Weapon as a huge force weapon. That way, you use the standard Warlord datafax with a nifty "Psy-Titan" layout.

The Corvus Assault Pod. Was a standard Warlord arm weapon, and could be used as both a melee weapon and as a boarding device. The standard one held a 5-man Terminator squad, while the Psy one held a 5-man squad of GKT's. Not sure what rules to use in the current ruleset.
