40k in 40min AGAIN! 3dc66c79

Now that I have your attention Very Happy

The 40k in 40min comp has come round again, and this time I plan to WIN!!
I will be using the Grey Knights Codex, but my list is FAR from grey knights.
The rules are:

-400point armies
-no armour value more than 33 all around
-must have one hq and one troops
-all games are capture and control
-no more than 3 wounds
(just like last year)

This is the list:

Coteaz

Henchmen
2 DCA
8 warrior acolites (las pistol chain sword)

Henchmen
3 multi-melta servitors

Henchmen
4 psykers

3 chimeras
all with multi laser/ heavy bolter

comes to 397 points Laughing

The plan is to sit back 36" and shoot with the chimeras till they come to me at which point charge the DCA squad into somthing!

Strengths
-3 chimeras
-one assault unit two shooty units

Weaknesses
-low leadership
-low unit sizes

Please if you have any advice or suggestions tell me Very Happy

So I found out today that (just like last year) there are no 2+ armour saves aloud Sad

My whole list is built around a guy with 2 up armour........

But don't hesitate as I also found out that the force organization chart is

1+ troops
0-1 everything else

So I wrote up an improved Guard list (It's alot like last years list, This link for list)

40K in 40 minutes

Troops
Veterans 70
Auto cannon 10
Transport
Chimera 55

So I ended up coming 4rd in the tournament out of about 25. Out of 7 games I got 4 major victories 2 minor victories and a draw (the best battle point score). Unfortunately this was a GW tournament and this year they are scoring 25% painting 25% sports 25% comp and 25% battle points (they obviously want to promote the hobby as a whole). I fell down on the painting score a little and the comp alot!

I'm disappointed at how they are scoring this year as I agree all those 4 things are important but you can win a tournament without winning a game?

For example the guy who came 2nd tied one game and lost the other 6. He played a fluffy dark eldar list that was painted quite well.

Am I going crazy or should you be able to win a tournament without actually winning a game?

I agree that is quite absurd. The overall score should heavily lean toward battle points with lesser emphasis on the other categories.

I even think comp is so subjective that it should be the least percentage.

Something like: 40% battle points, 25% sports, 25% paint & 10% comp.

This way, good generalship is clearly important and the tourney still promotes the hobby as well as good sportsmanship. Just my two cents...

the problem with official GW tournaments is the bias of their last army released ... obviously the DE is the last released army, so...
i saw that already in the dark shadow WHFB campaign where the dark elves had won the campaign with 75% of loss just because they had the most important number of battles !! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad
i agree with you brother : being second of a tourney with 6 losses, just because you play the last army released is totally absurd. furthermore, judging comp is so subjective ... affraid
congrats for your wins though. cheers

Technically Necron are the newest, so I very much doubt its new army syndrome.

Its just basic maths however, if your battle points are worth only 25% then you can probably win the whole event by scoring 0 there, and getting full marks in painting, comp and sportsmanship.

Sportsmanship and Comp are generally the biggest issues, since alot of players don't understand the first, and think its an opportunity to tank everyone who beats them scores, while as Rivan stated Comp is often just the event organiser giving friends good scores and everyone else bad.

Also why the **** do you need comp in 400 point games...? What could people possibly do in this point level with all the restrictions anyway.
