Hello Brothers!

I have brought you here to this topic to discuss, wether it's possible to create a model which will be able to be both a dreadknight and a dreadnaught (not at the same time though)? I'm really interested in both options in my army Very Happy plus it may even save money ^^

Thankyou brothers, may the emperors strength be yours Smile

Also I'd like to here peoples views on which model is cooler or what conversion you would do to make either of the models cooler.

All of this is very subjective bother.
I would say the main points to consider with having a model that represents both a Dreadnaught and a DK would be:

- Height
- Base size
- Weaponry

There are limitless ways to achieve the goal you are looking for, but a little more information from you in regards to your thoughts on the project at this time will help Wink

What model/s are you going to buy? Dread, NDK, Contemptor, etc...

In regards to "which model is cooler?" Again, VERY subjective. There are SO many Dread variatals out there now, and comparing them to NDKs is kinda like comparing apples and oranges. There are a lot of "hybrids" out there, so perhaps a quick google search will give you some inspiration and give you a base idea to work from that we can help you with.

It would help to know what your concept is. Is there a dead /alive knight/human in there? Or is it an old-school robot?

For example, if it's Inquisitorial you could through a sentinel cockpit into a dreadknight chassis, but that wouldn't suit the Grey Knight asthetic so well.

My dreadnought has sentinel legs bulked out with armour plating from the venerable dread set. It has more height but probably isn't bulky enough for a dreadknight.

My concept is to have a chasis that which can be used for both dreadknight and a dreadnaught so I can quickly change magnetized weapons. Considering the requirements as constantine mentioned bases, I will have to magnetize bases also.

I was thinking of the contemptors chasis for both dreadknight and dreadnaught is this reasonable?

My own opinion is that I prefer a dead pilot.

At the moment I'm building up as many ideas as possible. Sorry about the subjective phrasing I'll bear it in mind next time.

Thanks brothers.

There is a big different in size between a dread, a Contemptor and a NDK.

Using the Contemptor as a NDK would be an unfair advantage against your opponent.

I would say the contemptor on a NDK base would be plausable. If were to build the base up so that the Contemptor was the same height as a NDK then I think you should be good. IMHO as long as the model has teh same base size and is just a visible, then it shouldn't be an issue.

You will just need to figure out how to maganatize all of the different weapons. That could be really fun! cheers Shoulder mounter Heavy incinerator anyone Twisted Evil

Keep us posted on this project, it sounds fun Cool

the different sizes will be a problem though, particularly with the basis which are very different between DK and dreads.
quite costy too ... if you're using a Contemptor AND a DK it'll be quite pricey ... scratch

Shouldn't be an issue.
DK's are larger than Dreads, so just use one of those as the basis of your build.
I did a Psyfleman conversion, that is very basic with a DreadKnight I had lying around.
Hopefully this image works:

To make it interchangeable you need to magnetise the feet with large magnets so that you can swap between bases (note you need a MC base for the Dread, where the DK has a flyer base).

The vambraces on the dread can easily be trimmed so they don't connect through the glued on arm pistons on the DK, giving you interchangeable weapons, although you'll want some spare weapons to make this work.

With my above conversion you also remove the whole GKT inside the Dread concept, making it more Dreadnought like.

As far as arguments go about fairness... as long as the DK arms are not elevated they will be roughly even with a Dreadnoughts arms as far as cannons etc. DK's are far larger giving the opponent an advantage, and on the right base removes any close combat issues.
