Double Dreadknight @1750pts
Hi Brothers & Sisters,
I have decided I want to play 2 Dreadknights. Yep, going to give it a go because I think the model is awesome
I know it's not going to be uber competitive but I'd like to give it a go and any help would be appreciated.
So I'm thinking this:
Grey Knights 1 (1748pts)
HQ (150pts)
Castellan Crowe (150pts)
Troops (908pts)
8x Purifiers (266pts)
2x Psycannon, 4x Storm Bolter and Nemesis Force Halberd, 1x Storm Bolter and Nemesis Force Sword
Knight of the Flame
Nemesis Force Daemonhammer, Storm Bolter
Rhino
Searchlight, Smoke Launchers
8x Purifiers (266pts)
2x Psycannon, 4x Storm Bolter and Nemesis Force Halberd, 1x Storm Bolter and Nemesis Force Sword
Knight of the Flame
Nemesis Force Daemonhammer, Storm Bolter
Rhino
Searchlight, Smoke Launchers
5x Purifiers (188pts)
Psycannon, 3x Storm Bolter and Nemesis Force Halberd
Knight of the Flame
Nemesis Force Halberd, Storm Bolter
Razorback
Psybolt Ammunition, Smoke Launchers, Twin Linked Heavy Bolters
5x Purifiers (188pts)
Psycannon, 3x Storm Bolter and Nemesis Force Halberd
Knight of the Flame
Nemesis Force Halberd, Storm Bolter
Razorback
Psybolt Ammunition, Smoke Launchers, Twin Linked Heavy Bolters
Fast Attack (170pts)
5x Grey Knight Interceptor Squad (170pts)
1x Incinerator, 2x Storm Bolter and Nemesis Force Halberd, 1x Storm Bolter and Nemesis Force Sword
Justicar
Nemesis Force Daemonhammer, Storm Bolter
Heavy Support (520pts)
Nemesis Dreadknight (260pts)
Heavy Incinerator, Nemesis Doomfist and Greatsword, Personal Teleporter
Nemesis Dreadknight (260pts)
Heavy Incinerator, Nemesis Doomfist and Greatsword, Personal Teleporter
So the idea is for 3 stage setup:
1) The Dreadknights and GKIS move up (in objective games could hold the GKIS back for late game contesting).
2) Followed by the 2 Purifier Rhinos moving up
3) Razorback Purifiers hold back and hold objectives if need be.
Any thoughts? Ideas? Improvements?

Re: Double Dreadknight @1750pts
I like yourself like the ND Knight but have found that they are better for staying out of hand to hand, so I would change the sword out for a heavy psy cannon. Your army already has a large amount of hand to hand in the purifiers.
Keep the dread knights out of hand to hand (in most games) and have them jumping around at range shooting, if your opp comes out after them you can draw them into range of the rest of your army and take them apart, if they sit back, then good. I have found that most armies will take down one of them in the 1st or 2nd turn if you use them agressivly, after that the rest of the army becomes more of a problem and the ND knights are not what they are shooting at (also after putting most of their shooting into a dread knight and only takeing one down they now need to kill other units)

Thanks First Strike, the idea of the sword is to take down high armour really like AV14 or big MC. I see your point thought and to be honest I haven't tried the Heavy Psycannon yet.

I too recommend dropping the Sword for your NDKs. Also forget the heavy Psycannon, use the Heavy Incinerator instead, great range and ignore cover saves. Best weapon for the NDK, and it's cheaper than having a sword.
Also, why do your Purifiers in RB have only one Psycannon?

Thanks Donfer,
Can you put 2 Heavy Incinerators on a NDK? If yes, that's an awesome idea, flame away with 2x templates per NDK!!! Brilliant!! Look on opponents face = Priceless.
I only put 1 Psycannon on due to points really, no other reason.

Re: Double Dreadknight @1750pts
Excellent. Though the idea of two Heavy Incins is not allowed. Each weapon can be selected only once.
About the purifiers I reckon you need both psycannons in each squad. Try to work something with the points saved in the NDK. Hope it helps!

They are usefull with 3W, but I cannot see where it would fit in this list. I do run one but it is in terminator amour with a psy cannon inside a terminator squad. If he can save 2 terminators from going down then he has made most of his points back (plus what he shoots).
The one with grenades could come in handy but would cost more then you have points for.

Re: Double Dreadknight @1750pts
Change your razorbacks back to Rhinos, otherwise your psycannons are wasted due to having to get out and face enemy fire just to use them.
With Dreadknights I find the best combo for them is Heavy Incinerator and Nemesis Greatsword. If you're not in CC you have an awesome flamer and if you are forced into combat then you're pretty much guaranteed to kill something

Re: Double Dreadknight @1750pts
If you did, then you would need the swords on all of them, as you will get them into hand to hand (only a 12" range on the incins and a 6" move), the other problem is that the enemy would be shooting at the rest of the army for the first 1 to 2 turns as the dreadknights would not be on the board and they would normaly draw fire from the enemy. If they start on the board then they will be ignored for the first turn, as their movement and the incin will not make them a threat until turn 2 to 3 (normaly turn 3).

Re: Double Dreadknight @1750pts
I really like where your head is on this list!
I agree with Brother Corennus... When I do run my DKs I usually only run 2 (never 1 by itself), and they always have PTs, Heavy Incinerators, and Greatswords. This makes them first strike units with a lot of flexibility. Don't drop the PT's just to add another body either. I have 3 DK models and tried running all of them without the PTs to save points and they sucked. They become really slow and lose thier best qualities... flexability and vesatility. Also, I would recommend NOT using the heavy psycannon. It's great when/if it hits but it's not reliable enough to justify the points... IMO
I also agree with Brother Corennus’s comment about using the rhino over razor if you are moving them forward. If however, you are keeping one squad back to hold an objective then I would keep one razor for some ranged shooting.
Something else to think about... you could drop one of the 5 man squads and their razor and add 2 extra bodies to your 8 man squads. This would do 2 things; first you can add 2 more psycannons to the squads to max the firepower and second you can combat squad them if necessary. Right now you have 4 scoring units, if you drop one and CS your two 10 man squads you will have 5x scoring units. You only lose a total of 1 body overall but you gain 2 additional psycannons and some additional flexibility. In KP games your units are stronger (10 man instead of 8.) with more psycannon firepower (4 instead of 2) and 2 less overall KPs available to lose to an opponent (8 vs 10). In objective games you have more scoring units possible when you CS and some additional flexibility like putting all 4 psycannons in a 5 man squad (very nasty).
I pointed up a list based on your origional choices and came up with the following:
Crowe – 150 pts
2x 10 man purifier squads – 4 psycannons, 4 Halberds, 1 NFS, 1 NDH – 293 pts each
2x rhinos -41 pts each
6 man purifier squad - 2 psycannons, 3 Halberds, 1 NDH – 175 pts
1 Razor – TLHB w/psybolt – 50 pts
1 GHIS – 1 incinerator, 3 Halberds, 1 NDH – 170 pts
2x NDK – Greatsword, Doomfist, Heavy Incinerator, PT – 260 pts each
Total = 1733
That leaves 17 extra points to play with for vehicle upgrades etc... OR, you can squeeze another 16 points by dropping the Psycannons in the razor (you're only going to fire them once they disembark which may not even be necessary if you’re just holding an objective) and pick up another inteceptor.
16+17 = 33 / 6th Interceptor w/halberd = 31 pts
Just a couple things to think about.

Your interceptors are a good solid squad and unlike the DCA's without an assault vehicle they should always get the charge.

Fair enough, the way I was thinking is you have 2/3 chances of picking up an objective game and so I was going to use the DCA squad as a counter assault unit and not as an offensive unit if that makes sense.

Re: Double Dreadknight @1750pts
Hi Brothers,
Still working on this concept and I tried the list that Overlord posted up (thanks dude). Now it works really well the only problem I seem to have and maybe that's my poor playing but when I have multiple objective to secure and combat squad the 2x 10 man units, I have found that 5 Purifiers just don't have enough punch to take on some units, now don't get me wrong they are good and you have to choose your battles but sometimes you don't have a choice and you just have to take on "that" unit.
Now would something like this be better:
* HQ (150pts)

* HQ (150pts)
* Castellan Crowe (150pts)
* Troops (942pts)
* Crowe Purifiers (314pts)
- 2x Incinerator,
- 2x Psycannon,
