1500 list practice Empty 1500 list practice

Post by Vecuu Thu Jan 05, 2012 11:05 am

Greetings, Brothers! I've been perusing GK tactics for quite a while, but have yet to purchase the bulk of my force. List building is an enjoyable way to pass the time, and is a good way to plan ahead for the money that's about to evaporate from my hands. Razz

I built the list primarily because of how completely opposite it plays compared to my Tyranids. Lots of small, versatile squads, and 4 Lascannon tanks.
I tried to make it as versatile as humanly possible while still maintaining a Coteaz focus.
The Psyker squad is mostly for fun, I could alternatively just run another Lazerback and then have ~40 points to work with.

i think you henchmen lack of punch
if they are objective stealers or keepers, you'll have to bump up their gear imho
or maybe they are just an excuse for your laserbacks !? scratch

I figure after I blast them off the board, I can just cruise on over to the objectives. Very Happy

Maybe I should use regular Terminators instead of Paladins or maybe a squad of GKSS instead of Interceptors? I initially had 10 GKSSs with another Lazerback rather than the Interceptors.

The only units I have for this army at the moment are the henchmen I'm working on converting, so I don't actually have any Razerbacks yet. Embarassed
Like I said, I wanted this to be different than my Nids, and Nids don't get Lascannons or Transports. Besides, using Lazerbacks separates me from all the people who use Psyflemen Dreads. Very Happy

in all likelihood, you won't be holding onto all those razors, in game, for a long time. The benefit of the psyfledreads is that they can stay put with more shots and in cover from really far away. They're one of the best things we can use...so I wouldn't be very excited to not have any! Generally take at least 1...and a healthy dose of psycannons.

Well, for the price of one Psyfleman Dread, I can almost get two Lazerbacks. Higher strength, they can shoot at more targets, give the opponent more targets to shoot at, and they can give cover to each other if there is none to be had. Plus the Lazerbacks score without needing Grant Strategy.

I don't know, just seems like a very judicious use of points to me.

I could always use Psybacks rather than Lazerbacks, I suppose. It would shave almost enough points for a Psyfleman Dread, but then I would have two less TL high-strength shots.

Psyflemen Dreads are unique to Grey Knights, but so are only needing a 12 point investment for a Razorback. Smile

the lazerbacks only shoot twice if count together, even though its 1 strength more. they have lesser armor and only count as scoring if you put scoring units inside of them. you cant give them scoring via grant strategy. on top of that they are worth a killpoint each.

Those are some excellent points, Brother Souba. Somewhere in my head I lost the shot comparison between a Psyfleman Dread and two Lazerbacks. How silly.

If I drop the Lascannons off of the Razorbacks and give them Psybolt ammo, I can scrounge up 125 points, which almost gets me to a Psyfleman Dread.

If I were to swap the list over to something like this...

{1500} 1432
HQ: 189
Coteaz – 100
Malleus Inquisitor (Terminator Armor, Psycannon, 3 skulls) - 89

Elites: 310
5 Paladins (MC DH, MC Halberd, MC Psycannon Halberd, Halberd, Sword) – 310

Troops: 248
4 Identical Henchmen Squads: 62 x 5 = 248
3 Warrior Acolytes (Chainsword, Las-pistol)
Razerback (TL Heavy Bolter, Psybolt Ammo)

Fast Attack: 315
10 man interceptor (2 Psycannon, MC DH, Psybolt) 315

Heavy Support: 370
Dreadknight (Heavy Incinerator, Personal Teleporter) – 235
Psyfleman Dread - 135

...I find myself with 68 points to work with. The easiest thing to do would be to pick up a 5th Psyback, but I could always go for GKSS instead of the interceptors and shave off somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 more points, or use Terminators instead of Paladins for ~60 points, either option picks up a more durable scoring unit.
