The guy who writes the immaculately well done synaps3 blog has taken up grey knights instead of his nids for a while. I happened to play him round one of the Da Boyz GT (one of, if not THE major comp score GTs in the United states) and he took pictures every round and posted a pretty detailed bat rep.

Spoiler - I end up losing the primary after holding it through turn 6, and winning the secondary. This game was one of the most tactical, highest level of play games i've played in quite a while. We were both pulling out some great tactics all game. See if you can spot the 2-3 mistakes i think i made.

Bonus assignment - before you start reading, decide if you want to be me (the silver ones) or play against me (the black ones). Then as you read, before the game starts and after each turn decide how you would play the NEXT turn, then read how the person you are emulating did it. If they did it better, you learned something, and if you think you have a better move, post it so we can discuss.

This is an explanation of the tournament:

For those not familiar with it, basically they release 10 unique missions ahead of time and we play 6 of those at the event. Theres a comp chart, where you loose points off your final score for taking multiples of the same thing or too many in the same slot, and a panel of judges also gives you an extra score of how diverse and not cheesy they thought your list was. you also get a painting score. They say their intent is to determine who the best general is by taking out alot of the netlists and common missions, and seeing who can win with a less powerful list and some crazy missions you haven't played before. However, most people just go to show off their cool armies and conversions and play a bunch of games where they serve beer right next to the tables!

It's a fun even in upstate new york, and i recommend it even to non-tournament goers - they're all 'soft' friendly lists, it's a great time, and it's cheap as heck to get a hotel and enter.

That was a very good report and definitely a well played game on both sides.

You mentioned 2-3 mistakes but I can say I would have done 2 things differently.
1) I would have deployed another unit or two in addition to the GKTs.
2) Not sure but did your GKTs have enough cover? Or was it just really bad rolls on your part to lose 8 in one turn of shooting?

On a side note, your list is quited interesting. How would you expand that to 2000pts?

I'll let some more peoplee comment before i say what I thought, but turn 1 my GKT did indeed have cover from everything. enough rends and plasma and a couple bad rolls mean you lose some guys, though, and the psyshocks meant the justicar was already a gonner.

About the list, it's made to fit into a comp rubric, which encourages unusual lists (you can still find the rubric on their webpage). After playing his list, i'm pretty sure i'd add an inquisitor with a psychic power and a plasmacannon inquisitor squad. They add a ton of low ap threat i'm somewhat lacking, and i could either kit out the inquisitor to go with the purifiers for even more CC death, or have him sit back with the inquisitorial squad with a psyocc for super de duper shooting and an extra psychic commumion.

heck i'd probably drop the 5 man squad to get corteaz and 2 inquisitional units, but using a named character means you forfeit some points.
