The occasional question.
Hello, my brothers. This is going to be my noobish questions thread. I'll post up questions and if anyone would be awesome enough to answer them [The Emperor smiles upon those who aid their battle-brothers in need!] it would be great! My first one is a bit of a case of interpretation. Rulebook states that dual-wielding single-handed weapons provides +1 attack. The Nemesis Falchions provide a +1 attack bonus; my question is, does that mean you get a +2 attack, one for the dual-wielding and one for the additional bonus provided by the Falchions? Or is the bonus provided by the Falchions alluding to the +1 attack bonus from the fact they're dual-wield single-hand weapons?
Also, I am correct in assuming that the wrist-mounted storm bolters for the GKTs still counts as an assault weapon, right?
Oh, one more! I just began painting my first squad of Termies and OH GOD THE LITTLE DETAILS!! I was just wondering, does anyone have any suggestions for the brush size? I was considering purchasing the one Games Workshop sells, but would it be a waste of money, or a good idea? Much thanks, brothers!

Re: The occasional question.
Well there!
I'd start by reading the GW FAQ's for the main rulebook and for the GK book in particular - they'll answer a lot of questions that will probaly come up for you. For example, they clarify that the falchions are indeed only +1 attack total.
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?categoryId=1000018&pIndex=1&aId=3400019&start=2
Next, if you look in the back of your codex you will find that storm bolters are indeed assault weapons! This means you can move and fire them with no penalties, and can assault afterwards. It does NOT mean they count as a close combat weapon (like they did in the old dex, when you weren't assaulting)
Finally, i have no experience with GW brushes, but i assume an art store would have them cheaper (and they have a million different sizes and types of tips!) Craft stores have these too. The brush you want depends on how you want to paint them - some people actually sit there and paint small details, in which case you'll want a small tip and a medium to small belly. a lot of people paint a lower coat then drybrush over details, in which case you'll still want a small brush, but a little less small, and with a flat tip. and some people paint the detail colors and then do washes to fill in the area below. a basic normal, small tipped paintbrush can do all of these jobs ok, so dont worry about it at first, just find a smallish brush and experiment away!

Re: The occasional question.
Woo, they really kind of left us high-and-dry on the close-quarters bit of combat with this edition, didn't they? I was kind of hoping it was for a +2a; it'd definitely make them a seriously deadly weapon and well worth the points cost. For only +1a though, I'm not so sure. Might end up sticking with the halberds. Gotta love +2i for termies. Friend of mine swears by just the swords, though, loves the +4inv save and I've seen enough of his battle reports to see it works for him surprisingly well. But yeah at any rate, thanks for the link, it does clear up quite a few questions I was wondering about. I was also mostly curious about whether the storm bolters counted as a close-quarters weapon, given that they technically don't occupy the hand, but I guess that would kind of make them a bit OP.
I'll be hitting up some crafts stores later this week. I'm going for detail [I'm a perfectionist and a completionist all at once; it's the warp, it really is!] so I guess I'll go for the smaller tip brushes. Much thanks!

Re: The occasional question.
About the brushes they are OK brushes but I think over priced for what they are I would highly recommend the Raphael 8404 brushes they are Kolinsky Sable with very fine tips a nice spring back and a nice reservoir in the body of the brush which holds plenty of paint the problem I found with the GW ones was the paint dried to quickly on the brush for fine detail work.

Re: The occasional question.
Raphael 8404/01s? I'll have to look those up, then. I went ahead and bought one of the Army Painter brushes, Precise Detail. So far it's working very nicely.
Now if only my hands would stop trembling when I'm trying to do the teeny tiny little details!
...Also, brazen bronze. Is that paint still being sold?? I went to all my local hobby shops looking for it and could not find it anywhere. Not even that it was sold out, they just plain didn't seem to have it at all.
It's kind of funny. I got the basic paints with the intention of just kind of painting the models over without the details. ...And now? CAN'T STOP! Haha!

Re: The occasional question.
What company made "brazen Bronze"? GW lists all their paints on their website. Vallejo is a great company that provides a chart to match their colors to other companies, so you might find and equivalent there.

Re: The occasional question.
Blast! Large-blast, no less! ...Roll 6, remove group of bloodthirsters, victory in the name of the Emperor. Ok, I digress. I kind of figured brazen brass [why did I call it bronze??] was discontinued. A shame, I rather liked the color and was going to use it for some of the parts of my termies [namely the frontal portion of the armor that contains the Daemonicum]. But thanks for the advice on Vallejo, everyone, at least this way I have an alternative!
This next question is more opinion-based than anything else. Anybody else do anything with the Inquisitors and their warbands? I've found that I rather like the versatility they can provide and I've noticed that at the local hobby shops, no other Grey Knight players use them. I get the impression there might be a reason for it, but I also like that; it means that people expecting to go against me will not be expecting those units and that therefore I can use that to my advantage.

Re: The occasional question.
In tournaments they are often seen, in a variety of roles. Death Cults in storm ravens make a fantastic assault force. Plasma in a chimera make a good source of hard to find ap 2. a small squad in reserve makes a super cheap 12 point total scoring unit, and you can use communion to delay them till end of game then walk them onto and objective. an of course the multiple melta squads are popular.

Re: The occasional question.
DCA + some crusaders units could be really bad ass !!
but to be true i don't like much mixed armies (GK + humans).
nevertheless a full human deamonhunters army could be very competitive too, though more fragile, and very appealing to me for it's diversity and the offered painting possibilities...
