How many models are in your list?
In my gaming community everyone is complaining about the low model count in their GK lists. They just cant survive long enough to win games. So people are starting to drop all of the vehicles, dreads, accessories in their lists to get their "model count" up so that they can survive longer.
I was wondering how many models are you guys running? What do you think about the trend going on in my area? Are any of you seeing the same thing where you are at?
It seems that the GK's are a medium range strike force. Take 1-2 rounds of shooting and then assault for the win.
I just wanted to get the sense of what's out there as I'm new to the GK's (I also play Tyranids) and am working on developing my army.
Thanks...

GK will always have a low model count.

It all depends on the points level. At 1500 points I will field from 27-31 models. That includes in most cases two Razorbacks, a Stormraven and a Land Raider. I still put on the board roughly the same amount of infantry models as I did with the old dex but now also have a solid amount of transports to back them up.

In the 2000 pt GT list I'm planning to use, I have 34 models that includes a LR and a SR.

I laughed at this...even though it's obvious and not helpful...I'm looking for more detailed answers.
For example one guy here is getting ready to field 62 footslogging GK's
2 librarians
3 10 man SS
3 10 man Purifiers
His philosophy is deploy forward. Should have a decent chance of 1st and 2nd round shooting with 2nd - 3rd round assaults.

Re: How many models are in your list?
Higher number of models is always nice. Against some opponents, it will definitely do well. However, you can run into a problem when you're up against a very mobile army that can deploy shooting at range. They can potentially keep beyond 24" and just whittle you down (ie eldar and DE). The libby's summoning is handy but it does come w/ its own inherent risks.

Re: How many models are in your list?
Funny thing is most of those that played GK with the 3rd ed codex are loving the variety of lists available and potential for fielding larger model count armies than before. Additionally having been used to making a low model count and out of date army reasonably competitive, moving to the new codex is like a breath of fresh air.
It seems however that the flavour of the month jumpers are struggling to make the GK work like the power house they seem to be at first glance. I would suggest their issues are more of strategy and tactics than model count. Likewise I would suggest that the GK codex is a lot more balanced and reasonable than the 'internet' seems to be claiming.

Re: How many models are in your list?
I don't know DE and CWE don't really have a huge advantage against a foot GK army. CWE hit like a wet tissue at the best of times, and firedragons one of their biggest boons is primarily for taking out targets like LR's.
DE are a bit more balanced, and powerful, but stormbolters are potent against them.
Vehicles are generally good for early game movement and to reduce casualties from light weaponry.
Its all a tradeoff...

Re: How many models are in your list?
I've got 28 in 1500 points
Grand Master
10 Terminators
10 PAGK
5 Interceptors
Dreadnought
Storm Raven
If I was expanding to 2000 points I'd probably round out the interceptors to 10 men and think about getting either another terminator squad, paladins or a landraider. 5 Interceptors and 8 terminators would leave me under 2000 points with 41 models, with almost half the infantry in terminator armour, though I'd be relying on interceptors and the raven for mobility. On the other hand, with the dreadnought riding the raven the entire army is deepstrike capable.

I'd be very interested to see this list in full, as it's something that I'm looking at but with a Libby instead of a GM.

Re: How many models are in your list?
In general, with my brotherhood, LESS IS MORE!
More Elite warriors Even though the disadvantage is HUGE on the table top. Here's an example of some of my lists. Take note, these are WYSIWYG and very much themed; the fluffs important to me. Which is not to say I don't roll out some more brutal lists...
6th Brotherhood: Swords of Justice
GM Nero, Libby, 5 Paladins, 2 squads of 5 GKT's each, Dreadknight, 5 man purgation squad, LRC. With lots of upgrades and all that jazz, this tends to come to a nice 2000 points. *23 models*
Another list, same Brotherhood (so wargear, wysiwyg, etc are consistent)
Mentors: Brotherhood champ, Libby, 5 Paladins *this time they go with libby*, 9 Purifiers, 2 squads of 5 GKT's, Dreadknight, LRC. Though this is 1750.*28*
Now, note, 5 man squads usually arent very good. None the less, ascetically, teleporting on the battle field with keen tactics and synergy, and they can win they day as they are suppose to. 10 man squads are better, typically. Survive-ability and fire power; I enjoy deepstriking in 10 man GKT squads. But over all the low model count of wonderful individual warriors of great strength of mind and blade is what gets me.

Re: How many models are in your list?
Im new to GK as well and I've also been having a little trouble with list building. Coming from a Nid and Ork background, I'm used to having multiple 30 man squads (for well under 200pts each).
I've made several lists, which seem solid, but it kind of freaks me out only having ~30 models total (including vechicles). A Libby, 5 Termies and a LRR 700+ points It'll just get some getting used to.

1000 points
40 Power Armoured Grey Knights is 800 points.
An Inquisitor is 25
That gives you 175 points for upgrades.
Spend it on 8 psycannons and 8 daemonhammers.
Spend the last 15 points of change on whatever you fancy.
Double it up at 2000 points to have 80 Grey Knights legging it downfield.
We can have the numbers. We're just not that boring.

Re: How many models are in your list?
I think that in the old codex we were limited to the kind of list that would work in a game and it was expensive and gave us few models. With the new codex I think we now have a lot of variety and choices to make up our forces. I for one still love fielding an entire force or mostly a force of terminators. With the new paladins I find myself running them mainly with Draigo to make them troops. I typically have been running 2 squads of 5 paladins with a banner, apothecary, psycannon, psilincer, daemon hammer with all my paladins armed differently. They also all have psyammo and MC cc weapons. I also run a librarian, NDK, and a 5 man terminator squad with Thrawn. This gives me a total of 18 models, but they have been lasting every game and dealing a great deal of damage. I also have several variations of this list that give me sometimes up to 25 models depend on upgrades for my squads.

Re: How many models are in your list?
I just played a 2k 4 way game this week and I had 18 models in my list. I ran 3 squads of 5 paladins with draigo a librarian and a rifleman dread. It ran good and I ended up 2nd in kill points. I only lost one squad of paladins and my librarian. My dread blew up a storm raven and immobilized a death company dread in the explosion. All in all a good game.

Re: How many models are in your list?
My Draigowing has 17 models! Draigo, librarian and paladins. All the paladins in a squad carry slightly different things (mastercrafting helps) so wounds can be shared around, minimising losing full figures. It's rude but makes the army very survivable.
