Re: A new player has entered the game...

Post by fusioncell on Fri Sep 02, 2011 2:21 pm

No the more information the better! I want to learn as much as possible, its the universe as a whole the dragged me in, from playing the games and reading the Space Wolves book.

I like the idea of making my own little group of fists, not sure what I would call them, something like the Iron Fists, The Emperor's Reach...well I will work on that when I learn a bit more about the Fists as a chapter.

Rainbow Warriors sound awesome! Yeah the yellow thing is important to me, in the two GamesWorkshops I've been in I've never seen any yellow guys so I just figure its something a bit different and its a pretty cool colour.

Thank you brother

I try to be of help.

And i think i am one of the better versed in 40k fluff.

I know far from all (it's ALOT out there) but i know the basics and some more. Just don't ask me qbout dates and stuff, i don't do numbers well.

Two fun facts about imperial fists.
Imperial fists miss two of their implants (or they simply don't work) making them not beeing able to spit acid, and not beeing able to enter a rest state that lets spce marines go around resting some systems of their brain while still beeing operational.

All marines spit acid.

It's just the imperial fists and those with the same geneseed that don't. I is a flaw they got.

Spitting acid is useful if they get imprisoned, then they can chew their way out.

Oh and if you think that is strange, hear this one.
Space marines can eat their fallen foes and gain some of their memories.

Yup, space marines can see into their enemies minds by eating them.
Doesn't appear to often in books.

The other organs are more normal, check them out in the codex space marines, if you haven't got it yet. Google it. They have some cool ones.

You can, and if you do... you will be frowned upon.

Only proxy when you want to try something out. If you like what you tried, get it, if not... ditch it.

Very simple.

My apologies Kolmster,Guess I should have read the whole conversation Rolling Eyes Embarassed Sleep work/sleep depraved when responded.

Using a stand in loaner army for learning purposes and proxies is a great idea.
It is an expensive hobby,And I miss understood what you were trying to explaining too him.

I'm glad Fusioncell, you are taking the time to learn how start an army and play it.

Looking forward to see your progress in painting and converting Fusioncell!

Well I will hopefully go and buy a codex some time next week rather then keep borrowing my friends.

it sound rather cool and a bit weird. I emailed the black library for some information on Imperial Fist books. There is one by Ian Watson called Space Marine but apparently its no correct for the current universe, but I might give it a read anyway.

Yeah it should be interesting, my first few miniatures came out awfully. GamesWorkshop told me to use black undercoat which looked like a bad idea but according to them thats how you do it! Anyway as I guessed it turned out awfully so I have ordered some of The Army Painter colour primer so it will be cool to see what that is like, never used a colour primer before.

Has anyone got any tips for doing the edges of the shoulder pads? They are a bit awkward to do neatly.

Well now.....Black base undercoat for yellow paint, maybe if you want the darker yellow.
I'd take those figures back to this "GW RED"shirt guy and make him eat those figures! Twisted Evil

Mad He should have told you to test on a spare piece of plastic first Mad
But I would use a white base undercoat, for a more brighter yellow, works well with red also.

Or you could use thisArmy painter Daemonic Yellow is a good paint for Imperial fists. cheers
It covers your figure in 1 coat with some touch ups and gives you a nice base coat to start with
and then just use some of the washes study and you should be OK.

Some people leave them on the sprue with one point of contact for better handling and some people remove them.
Just depends on personal preference.

Yeah the daemonic yellow is the one I ordered so fingers crossed that should work well. I might put a white undercoat on first as well to make it even brighter.

The GW guys weren't really that helpful, I get more help at a shop called War Game Store, a little independent shop, the owner is super helpful and has taught me more about painting then GW did and didn't try to sell me loads of kits afterwards.

Just be careful not to use too much paint,as it will cover the details of the model. "IE" less is more.

Try to use a spare piece of plastic to test on,Try one with the white base and one without
it and see which one works best for you.

I have used it on my Valkyrie and its almost finished.

And I think it turn out well,The silver on it is also by army painter Platemail metal.

In my town there is only an independent store. So i guess i'm blessed.

The "always use black primer" is a good tip.
EXCEPT FOR BRIGHT COLOURS.

The big advantage of black primer is that you can just skip painting some places, and BAM, it's shadows there.
You don't have to fiddle in black lines afterwards.

While working with a white primer (or any other one) you will have to work in the black-lining.
Otherwise the models will look flat, unless you do some serious blending and shading.

I watched a DVD called hot lead.
It gave alot of beginner tips on the first DVD, (only watched the first yet though)
It's a three DVD pack and is about a very good painter giving tips on how to paint.

I would also normally put a link to my terminator tutorial on the site.... but it isn't the same painting style so it would not be correct tips.
(If you want to see the tut anyway, it's in the painting tips as a sticky, and the DVD..... i pirated that Razz)

Have fun learning, and i would go to the local store (as in the independent one) and ask for as many tips as possible, try to find someone who is at a higher painting level than you and ask him how he came out of this stage in the hobby and ETc.

And ofcourse ask us here, as you can see we hate helping people and despise giving out advice...........

Indeed Razz

I saw a review of it on youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHHvvdAlTH8

I has a foldable tray, so the DVD's are easy to access.
Other than that, he said not a single good thing about it.

Alas i have not seen the thing myself, but from his point of view it sounds less than perfect.

Or more like it's the worst crap produced since chicken fertelizer.

I'd say get hot lead, he reviews that one too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jH46bDTXcM&feature=relmfu

And he reviews this one too, that according to him is superior.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEIWwdQAhbs&feature=relmfu

Btw, this guy also sais the hot lead dvd is the best for beginners, espescially the first dvd in the set.
