First Paladin Army Empty First Paladin Army

While I'm still putting together my new GK army, I thought it would be fun to go and play a local 3 game tournament. I went with the following list:

HQ
Kaldor Draigo
Librarian (Might of Titan, Shrouding, Warp Rift)

TROOPS
1x5 Paladin Squad (2xHalberds, 2x Swords, 1xDH, 1x Psycannon)
1x5 Paladin Squad (2xHalberds, 2x Swords, 1xDH, 1x Psycannon)

FAST ATTACk
1x10 Interceptor Squad (2x Psycannon, 1x DH, Swords, Psybolt ammo)
2x Stromraven Gunship (TLMM, TLPC)

I went with plasma cannon on the SR since I also play BA and that's the config I use for the SR, I didn't had the time to put some LC in there so I thought "What the hel"l, and it actually was better than expected.

The tournament was based on the Battle Missions rulebook so I played some pretty weird scenarios.

- First Battle was against Necrons. A The Deciever based army with lots of Pariahs and Inmortals (pretty annoying those guys). We played a Necron mission, three deployement zones, three objectives. Necrons went first. He deployed his forces all inside terrain and a very spread out 10 man necron unit to cease control of the objective on his side of the table. The one monolith his army was packing stayed in reserves to deep strike later in the game. Before all of this I rolled the d6 for Draigo and got a 2, which allowed me to make my Interceptors Scoring. I decided to go on foot with both Paladin squads, while both SRs provided covering fire to my army. Interceptors Combat Squaded and went into the SRs. I ended up winning 2 objectives to none thanks to the interceptor's 30" shunt. Highlights of the battle were killing the Deceiver with my NFWs. Warp-quaking the Monolith 2 turns in a row (thanks to very bad scatter rolls from my opponent's part). It was actually a shoot-out battle, we never engaged in CC, save for the assault I was forced to conduct on the monolith.

-Second battle was against Space Wolves. 3 squads of Longfangs, 3 babysitting troop units and 3 Wolf lords with lots and lots of wolves. His strategy was simple, shoot everything from distance and assault what was left with his wolves. Standard mission capture and control, with dawn of war deployment. We rolled out and he went first. I decided to leave my SRs in reserve, while my Palis would take all the heat form the Long Fangs until my SRs came in. Interceptors remained in the SRs as well as the Librarian. I managed to get both SRs the second turn (thanks psychic communion) in his backyard, and this is where my plasma cannons payed off. I managed to destroy his long fangs and troops in two turns. On the other side of the board, shooting went well for me, but could not avoid his charge. Draigo and the paladins did well, but lost some. I also lost one SR and one Interceptor squad. I won 1 objective to 0.

- Third game I went against Tau. Lots of marker lights, battlesuits and pathfinders. Very shooty army. He of course went first, and deployed exceptionally well, giving me little room for maneuvering. We played some kind of tau mission, something like capture and control (sorry but it was already late and I was tired of battling). I decided to leave my SR in reserve and just like game 2. This time however I wasn't able to get my SR up until turn 4, where my Palis where all but obliterated. I managed however to charge with draigo, and a helping hand from my Librarian, killing two units of battlesuits, and their drones. Highlight was warp-rifting his HQ to oblivion, in the worst initiative check I have ever seen. in the end my remaining Interceptor squad tried to shunt to grab a last minute objective but failed to reach safe distance.

I actually liked how the army performed, and think that deployment is crucial to this army's success on the battle field. the fact that one can double the scoring units via Draigo is a great boon too. i was expecting to use the SRs to move my Palies around but actually served me better as gunboats, or for my Interceptors. i don't know if this is good or bad, but I'll try some more games, and see what happens.

Thanks for reading and of course all your comments are welcome! Very Happy

Very nice! And congrats on doing so well.

We actually have the same mindset in how the SR is used -- more as a gunship. Of course, it can always transport units which is a plus Very Happy

Thanks for your comments Brothers! I love the SR and certainly would like to try it with the lascannon, though the Plasma is also nice. Perhaps facing an IG army could have yielded different results since plasma isn't that great against tanks. One thing I didn't notice until after I finished the tourny, was that I barely assaulted, and that most of the action took place on the shooting phase. Perhaps mostly because the armies I faced. It felt quite right to take advantage of the 24" shooting range, and only assaulted to finish what was left.

Anyways looking forward for a rematch with the Tau and hopefuly squeeze more psycannons in there bom
