New GK player - looking for 1500pts Draigowing advice.
Hi guys,
First time posting, so I thought I'd introduce myself and ask for some help in putting together my Draigowing list.
I'm getting back into 40k after a four year lapse during which time I sold and/or gave away all of my WH40k minis. I have past experience with Chaos and Tau, but my main army was Orks.
I went to my local GW a couple of weeks ago and had a chat with one of the guys there and explained my financial situation (I am a full-time uni student with a wife, one year old daughter and another small child on the way), but explained that I really wanted to get back into 40k but didn't want to spend big bucks on an army, being that I've got three other humans to feed with what I earn.
He recommended that I try out a Draigowing army with the logic being that you could (technically) field 1500pts with 10-15 models. I thought that was an awesome idea, so I've just forked out some cash to buy two sets of termies which will become the paladin spine of my army.
So along with Draigo and 2 or 3 DreadKnights and maybe another set of Paladins, how should I go about this in a way which will cost as little as possible, while still remaining reasonably competitive?
Kit them to the teeth to make up the points? Buy more termies/paladins because they are cheaper than forking out for DK's and LR's? Stop with my stupid idea for a Draigowing army and switch to a more expensive but more competitive Crowe/purifier Razorback spam?
I'd appreciate any feedback you give.
Thanks for your help.

If your on a really tight budget I'd recommend buying online, you can save 25% pretty easily.
Dreadknights are cool, but psyflemen dread are probably more effective for a terminator list.
You can pretty easily make a good list with just a few squads of Pallies and GKT. Too many upgrades is rarely any good though.
I wouldn't really say that razorback spam is more competitive, its a totally different way to play. Its probably easier to play them a pure draigowing army due to model count issues, but a well built GKT based army should give it a reasonable run for its money.

Welcome to the forums!
Here is a link to another member's list of and 1850 point army of paladins: 1850 Pure Pally
It's 20 paladin models, 1 Draigo, and 1 Librarian. You can change it up as needed to save money or change the points value, but it's not a bad position to start at IMO.

3-4 Boxes of Termies is an excelent way to start. Add to that Draigo and you're good to go (you can convert one of the Termie models into a Librarian without too much work ).
Brother BK just gave you a nice idea for an army. What I recommend is take a look at that list and tweek it at your own needs/likes, then post it here and we'll try to help you improve it. Welcome brother!

Welcome to the forums Brother
Also check out the Trade threads. We have one member here who is selling his GK units. You might get a good deal from him.

Thanks for the advice guys, and for the friendly welcome, I apreciate it.
I'll probably be looking at a modified version of that all paladin 1850pt list, that's great.
I'll post my placeholder list shortly.
Out of curiosity, what doe everyone think of using Vindicare assassins in a mostly footslogging pally list? Worth it?

I personally love the Vindicare. Specially with the new rules. I think a vindicare can compliment a pally list very well, providing long range fire support. I would just suggest you have enough stuff to keep your opponents preoccupied so your vindicare can fire at leisure

Very true GM Rivan and welcome brother Samridyard. The Vindicare is also one of my favorites, just make sure your cover saves are low to keep your Vindicare alive longer. Buildings with a 4+ cover can be 2+ with a stealth special rule and the aid of GK techmarine's bolster defenses.

Don't discount the Callidus either, its the ultimate disruption unit, particularly good at taking out heavy weapons teams or similar. It should be able to kill a 5 man dev squad pretty easily as it lands, and then its a matter of good placement to keep it alive.

Maybe so, but Draigowing armies typically severely lack in the shooty department. I would think a Vindicare would in general be more useful than a Callidus in a Draigowing army .

Re: New GK player - looking for 1500pts Draigowing advice.
welcome aboard
i think Draigowing is a fluff army ... good but not so competitive unless you kwow it very well and how to play it against all possible opponents.
personally i like having full loaded Pallies with Draigo, a libbie and a LR (or LRC) cause DS isn't always worth it.
i love the "best of the best of the best" idea of a Pally army... knowing that i'll probably get hard times against some shooty armies (IG, DE, Tau)
Vindicare is good (though my favorite is the Culexus for fluff reasons), but in general i don't like mixing GK and humans, so i won't use him much.

Re: New GK player - looking for 1500pts Draigowing advice.
Sooooo... I figured out some 1250pt and 1500pt lists that include both a psyfleman dread and vindicare assassin.
I'm including the Apothecary(s) for now, as the guys I'm battling mostly don't have an extraordinary amount of special (ignore FNP) weapons, but they may be subbed out in future.
The 1250pt list is as follows
Draigo - 275
Vindicare Assassin - 145
5 Paladins - 460
1 w/psycannon/mc sword
1 w/psycannon & MC hammer
1 apothecary w/mc sword
1 w/mc sword
1 w/brotherhood banner
Psybolt ammo
5 Terminators - 230
1 w/halberd/incinerator
1 w/sword
1 w/hammer
1 w/falchions
1 justicar w/stave
Dreadnought - 135
TLAC w/psybolt ammo
So that totals to 1245.
My 1500pt list takes out the terminators and replaces them with:
6 Paladins - 505
1 w/psycannon/mc sword
1 w/psycannon MC hammer
1 apothecary w/mc sword
1 w/mc sword
1 w/brotherhood banner
1 w/mc falchions
Adding that squad in totals to 1500 on the nose.
Comments and criticism?
