Another Day, Another 2000 Point List By Brent

Post by TheCrimsonGlass on Mon Jun 27, 2011 5:15 pm

So I was looking at my other 2000 point list (which I still plan on testing), and I really wanted to squeeze a Librarian in there. Here's what I've come up with:

HQ
Librarian@170 w/ MoT, Shrouding, Sanctuary, and Warp Rift
Draigo@275

Elites
Venerable Dreadnought@195 w/ 2 TL Autocanons and Psybolt Ammo

Troops
5 Paladins@315 w/ 2 psycannons
10-man GKSS@270 w/ 2 psycannons, 1 hammer, rhino

Fast Attack
Interceptor Squad@290 w/2 psycannons, 1 hammer
Stormraven@205 w/ TL MM instead of Heavy Bolter

Heavy Support
Nemesis Dreadknight@260 w/ Heavy Incinerator, Nemesis Greatsword, Personal Teleporter

This puts me at 1980 points. I'm looking for thoughts on where the extra 20 should go. Happy daemon hunting!

-Brent

I'd use it for psybolt ammo on your interceptors(GKSS would be ok too).

hmm i would swap the ven dread for a normal one and give the interceptor squad psybolt ammo and 2 incinerators instead of 2 psycannons. the shunt movement and the perfect positioning you can do with it is really helpfull to get rid of some nasty artillery like shooters. longfangs for example

Well I tried out this list, and it's okay. I need to improve myself as a player in addition to this list. It stomped some Necrons and Daemons (twice with the Daemons). But I have problems against handling Space Wolves. I tied twice in friendly games against them, and I got tabled in our local tournament against them.

First of all, the reason I got tabled was solely due to deployment. I had second turn, but I put basically everything out in the open. In hindsight, I should have put the SR and rhino in reserves, DS'd the IS and DK, and hid the dread behind some things. On his first turn, he exploded my dread, exploded my SR, wrecked my rhino, killed 6 of my interceptors, and killed my dreadknight. From then on it was a struggle just to exert any influence on the board. The paladins never got their chance to shine because they were stuck footslogging in the back of my deployment zone.

Bottom line, as my opponent put it after he tabled me, I've "got too many toys". He said he had the same issue when he first started out in February, and I have to agree with him. The dreadknight is great, but it just doesn't work well with everything else that I have. I think I would need 2 for it to actually be effective. I have the same opinion about the dread: he's great, but I need 2 for it to actually be worth it.

I'll probably make a revised list suspiciously similar to Rivan's list that he posted about a few days ago. It's very similar to this one, but it "cuts the crap", so to speak. I need to use the SR as more of a backup unit, because I'm always just too tempted to fly it across the board turn 1 and let it get annihilated. Having the Paladins in a LRC would be much more effective. I also need more models, period. I simply don't have enough units to take on large armies (well I might, but I'm not yet skilled enough to use them properly). So I could switch to a GM with 'nades, add a strike squad, and make the pallies scoring with GS if need be. I'll be putting more thought into it and come up with a list before long.

The initial lists I was making were also victim to that "many shiny toys syndrome" Razz I wanted to use a NDK as well and some dreads but you just can't fit them all in w/o sacrificing bodies. That's why I ended w/ only a SR and LR and I put everything else into more bodies. I just had to figure out which units would possibly work well together against a good variety of opponents. The list will still have problems vs. highly mobile armies that pack a lot of firepower (ie DE) but hopefully, tactics and terrain can help mitigate that a bit Smile

Have you posted your reviewed list Brother?

Yeah there's just no way to be effective if you try to do "a little of everything". You've got to basically pick a theme and go with it. The SR and IS should help mitigate the outmaneuverability of DE armies, but they'll probably still cause issues. This is where some ven dreads would shine, but as you said, you would need to sacrifice too many bodies. I think out of ven dreads, pallies, and interceptors, you probably shouldn't have all three in a single list. The interceptors are almost necessary out of those 3 just for the body count, so you would have to either take pallies or ven dreads, but not both. This is only my opinion, but I actually have some of my own experience to back this statement up.

@Constantine: Not in the Sector Command thread yet, but I will. Actually found a way to tweak that list I used against SW in my last batrep and I think its even better (maybe Razz )

I've been thinking about ways to tweak my list with yours in mind haha. I wonder how similar they will be when we both are finished with them. Razz

Yeah there's just no way to be effective if you try to do "a little of everything". You've got to basically pick a theme and go with it.

I don't have the battle experience you have my brothers, but since my time on this forum I've learned a wealth of information and strategy that I praise the Emperor for.

I agree with you Brother BrentK. When constructing a list it is vital to stick to a solid theme and not spread yourself thin with trying to effectively use "every" type of troop choice.

That's why recently I've themed my list solely around GK, Purifiers w/Rhinos, and Dreadnaughts.

From here I plan to exhaust every avenue of strategy and hair brain idea till I understand how to synergize these 3 units together.

Be it, learning who and how to reserve my troops and who to walk on the battlefield and who to DS and where. How to effectively use Servo Skulls when in my list.

All the while experimenting and alternating command with a GM or Librarian.

All in all, what I respect most about this forum is our tenacity to be a force to be reckon with on the battlefield.

We are the Emperor's Right Hand!

I built a similar army for a tournament this weekend @1750 pts. I'll post a report, this afternoon, but I went with

Draigo
Librarian
2x5 Palis
1x10 Interceptors
2x Stormraven

I went 2-0-1 and lost only to Tau because of objectives. Interceptrors are really an excellent addition to this kind of army. Lots of nasty things one can do with them.

Your advice is great Brother Brent, focus is very important when building any list. Unless of course, having different units serves an specific purpose, but redundancy is always important in WH40k.

Yes Brother DonFer I am really starting to realize that myself. I mean your list is essentially half of my list doubled. It cuts down on the 'toys' so to speak. I very much look forward to reading your battle report, as I have yet to be monstrously effective with my interceptors.
