Rion Master of the 8th Empty Rion Master of the 8th

Post by Rion Fri Feb 14, 2014 7:22 pm

Grandmaster Rion: Master of the 8th Brotherhood, was born to a normal family on a normal world. What little remains of his memories from that time tells Rion he liked listen to the rain, and that his mother was kind and smelled of perfume, usually brands that are used by the middle class. But the peaceful life of a common imperial citizen, to grow, fall in love, have children, die nameless like his parents, was not meant to be. For by the time the young boy reached ten years of age, the Inquisition came. The boy was a psyker, powerful enough that the Inquisitions tarot readers foretold he would become a great weapon in their battle. Taken by Black Ship to Titan the boy proved worthy of receiving the Emperor's Gift and joined the 666th Chapter.

In training Rion stood out from his peers in terms of swordsmanship, and mental ability. That is not to say he was smarter then his fellow initiates, but in the sense of his mind could "switch gears." With no more then a few seconds thought Rion can switch between the mind set of a seasoned warrior, cunning, ruthless, relentless, strategic, and that of a Librarian, mindful, studious, willful, genius. While retaining his core personality; curious, intelligent, resolute, caring of his brothers, faithful to the Emperor and his people. Although this 'switch' proved impractical in battle as seconds meant the difference between life and death. While as skilled as his fellow brothers in training with most weapons the Chapter used Rion proved to have a natural gift with the long blade, quickly becoming the best swordsmen of his training group, with even Brotherhood Champions seeing potential in the raw recruit.

After the completion of his training, the newly named Rion, a name meaning “giant” from ancient Terran legend (a name that fit given Rion's larger then normal frame), was given a choice, a special case given the duality of his mind. Serve with his brothers in a Squad or the life of study in the Librarium? Rion's answer was simple yet would mark his destiny. "The Emperor has given me with a unique gift. Shall we waist it on a singular path?" Thus Rion spent the first seventy five years of his service with Squad Jeril, under Justicar Jeril, learning to link his mind and powers to that of his brothers, and become one unit, a singular weapon to smite daemons.

His psychic might and skill with the blade growing in equal portions Rion served Squad Jeril well as Telekine, showing a special aptitude in kinetic domes, but like his now forgotten mortal life, his time with Squad Jeril was short and he soon left his squad to enter the halls of the Librarium to further learn how to use his Psychic might as a weapon that could match his fists. It was here that Rion meat Karas, who like Rion was beginning his Librarium training, and the two struck up a friendship that lasts even to this day. His studies in the Arcane accumulated, and his mind hardened against the creatures of the warp that would prey upon it, Rion took to the battlefield again, this time in a position far above his previous status as a mere Battle-Brother, now he had the ear of a Grandmaster, for part of his duties was to advise his Master. A task Rion, by necessity, learned quickly. But it was here Rion's destiny came into the light.

-Excerpt from the Diary of Librarian Rion -date and planet expunged from records-

This world is like so many other’s I’ve fought on. Calm. Peaceful. Quiet. Warm. Full of Life. The Emperor’s Blessing was upon us. The Deamon infestation while requiring the near the full might of our Brotherhood, the 8th, was mostly confined to the Northern continent meaning the southern continent many thousands of leagues away, would be spared cleansing. I am aware of the importance of such an act. But cleansing always leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Thank the Emperor for small blessings.

We lost three more brothers today. Yet they managed to take five times their number in daemons with them. We burned thrice that number in daemons and cultists as vengeance. Armor and Gene-Seed recovered.

-sound of explosions can be heard recording cuts out-

“Command Word: Pause Recording! Command Word: Stasis Mode!” Rion turned from the Servo Skull familiar hovering over his shoulder towards the sound of the explosion. His Terminator War Plate humming smartly as the servos moved with him. Off  in the distance Rion could see more explosions as a horde of Cultists hundreds strong along with the hunched snarling forms of Khorne Berserkers hundreds of them. The long awaited final charge had started.

Rion drew his long sword activating it’s latten power with but a caress of his mind. While another tendril of his mind reached out for the Grandmaster. “My Lord I have them in sight. They do not seem to be aware of the plan.”

Rion felt the Grandmasters mental nod. “Excellent. Do not let them past we strike soon.”

Rion nodded back gesturing with his free hand towards the three full squads of Battle-Brothers entrenched little further down the hill. Faces gaunt behind their silver helms. Fingers flexed on Nemesis Weapons and Psilancers. Minds open to receive his orders. “Show them fury!”

As one the thirty Knights squeezed the triggers on their Storm Bolters and Psilancers. Like waves breaking against the rocks of a cliff the first few ranks of Cultists and minor Daemons began to fall. Bodies torn and rent form the holy firepower of the Grey Knights.

The first wave lasted only 30.1112 seconds. Before Rion’s strike force cut them down to the last man/daemon.

The second lasted even longer being much larger in size some were in danger of reaching the trenches.

Half way through the second wave the last few cultists were dead and only the daemons remained.

The third and largest wave easily almost a thousand in number finally reached the Sons of Titan battlements. As the daemons descended on the entrenched Knights, blood red swords clashing with blessed adamantium Rion raised a fist. Thunder clapped as the three Vortimer-Pattern Dreadnoughts crested the hill. The mental growling of their Psycannons humming in the back of Rion’s mind as his ears picked up the loud crackling of energy around their Nemesis Force Weapons.

“WE LIVE TO SERVE.” The lead Dreadnought spoke. Brother Orsis.

As one ten Terminators who had been standing as unmoving as statues behind Rion awaiting his orders flicked their Force Weapons to life energy crackling around the blade. Psilancers humming to life as their barrels began to cycle. “WE ARE THE HAMMER!” They cried as one.

Rion raised his sword pointing it towards the heavens. “FOR THE EMPORER BROTHERS!”

Corennus> I honestly don't see why not. A brief assignment to the 8th from the 7th or as part of his Knight Errant mission I think either could work.

Iridius hefted his psilencer, and pouring all his psychic might into the ancient weapon brought forth the white hot daemonbane he was now famed for. The incandescent shells whipped past Master Rion's head into the advancing hoarde of daemons. Bloodletters and cultists exploded in a red mist as the battle madness welled up in Iridius once more.

Defers to Rion for rest of the story

White hot incandescent bolts sailed past Rion's head, one skimming so close that it tousled his hair as it sailed by. A brief smile caught on the corner of his lips. Only One Grey Knight in all of the 8th's forces had the aim to make such a shot. The skills he had learned in the Purgation Squads still seemed to serve Iridius well.

'Of course.' Rion thought lowering his sword arm taking a slow deliberate step forward. 'His aim is only matched by the Grandmaster's and his skill with a blade rivals mine. half the reason I wanted him at the head of my Terminator Bodyguard.'

Nemesis Force Sword held at his side Rion began to walk down the hill, his stride slow and measured, his Terminator War Plate still humming smartly as he moved. Iridius and his Terminators began to move with Rion, their strides just as patient just as measured, their fire never ceasing. Half way down he brought his Sword up to his left shoulder left hand clasping the bottom of the hilt, his pace began to quicken, from a measure walk, to a brisk marching pace, then to a full out run. As they neared the entrenched Strike Squads, Daemons still unable to clear the trenches, a cry took hold in Rion's throat.

"BROTHERS DUTY CALLS! HOW WILL YOU ANSWER?" Rino smiled approvingly as the Terminators answered as one. "WITH HOLY FIRE AND FAITH! HOW WILL YOU ANSWER?"

Rion's own answer came as a psychic shriek so loud that it would have caused all but the hardened minds of daemons and his fellow Astartes, to bleed upon 'hearing' it. "MIND, FAITH AND STEEL!!!" As the last syllable left his mind Rion did something rarely done in Terminator Plate. He jumped. His arc while not high was long taking him up and over the heads of his brothers and the first two ranks of daemons. As he leap his sword came up over his head, slamming down into the dirt as he landed amongst the horde of Khorne Bloodletters.

Psychic might focused on the impact point of his sword Rion calling upon his years of training within the Librarium summoned forth a mighty shockwave sending it out before him hitting the horde of daemons before him with the force of a land raider at top speed. Inhuman shrieks of pain deafened Rion for a split second as the Bloodletters not fast enough to get out of the way were flattened to the ground. After a second Rion raised his bowed head. The surviving Daemons were quickly forming a semicircle around him, Rion calmly rose back to his full height Force Sword coming to rest on his right shoulder, as he felt a presence equally calm walk up next to him with a crackling Halberd held in hand, and still spinning psilencer.

"I don't think we've got our true targets attention yet." Rion commented looking back towards the treeline. Before he could say more a deep, primal, baritone, rage filled roar erupted from within the forest. "I stand corrected."
