Re: digging the archeovaults of GW

Post by Aubec le noir on Tue Oct 09, 2012 11:26 am

after months of quiet sleep, now i raise this topic ... with my favorite models (at last ! Razz ) the dwarfs from early 80's to ours poor days (metal speaking Wink )
I pass the FTD (Fantasy Tribes Dwarves) because i lack the pictures of them (i had but can't find them anymore)
so this is the C06 dwarves series (some are former FTD : the drawed ones) the other are the superb dwarf from the Perry brother and some from Jes Goodwin if i can remember well.
C06 dwarf adventurers (i've got about a third of those models, including the female dwarf fighters that are just plain superb !! affraid )
http://solegends.com/citc/c06dwfadvc1.jpg
C07 dwarf warriors (none of them are mine ... a pity ! Crying or Very sad )
http://solegends.com/citc/c07dwfwarriorsc1.jpg
C08 dwarf warriors (i possess 1 or 2 of them ... too few if you ask me ! Razz Wink )
http://solegends.com/citc/c08dwfwarriorsc1.jpg
C06 Dwarfs (i've got them all)
http://solegends.com/citc/cj85f23c06dwarfs.jpg
enjoy the old ages scuptures and "finesse" ... if not... well I surely do ! Razz Razz

Post by Aubec le noir on Thu Oct 11, 2012 11:29 am

ok ... it's confirmed the C06 dwarf adventurers and C07 dwarfs ARE the former FTD1 to 10 and after seeing the pictures of the FTD11 to FTD26, i found it seems that i've got some of those goodies !! Twisted Evil cheers
At this point i have to remember my honorable brothers (even those who wasn't born in the early 80's) that in this era of amateurism and discovery the Citadel range was associated with the Ral Partha range (until 1981 or 82) so you'll notice strong differences between model of the same range depending if they are from Ral Partha sculptors or Citadel ones... DS1 Dwarf cannon (i've got it without the box and i'm not sure i have all the crew... scratch ... i have to check, and i don't have the diorama basis)

Regiments of renown
RR1 Bugman's dwarf rangers (superb models very well sculpted). It's the 1rst version of this well-known regiment, released in 1983, originally sold in a 8 minis + 1command guy box, so you needed 3 box to possess the standard the musician and Bugman himself... then with the 2nd edition of WHFB they added a champion (with horny helmet) so you had to buy 4 boxes to possess all the command model : So you see, even before 1986 GW was very keen on marketing ! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil affraid affraid
i've got them all, including the later champion. (i've got bugman twice but one was a little converted by his previous owner... Suspect )

here is the champ :

hi Klom,
i'm a collector, first of all... always be
I collect dwarves since 1988, and it's difficult now to find dwarves i don't have (except the FTD serie and some very very rare dwarf such as the Nottingham dwarf...)
for instance i have a regiment of 40 dwarves (unpainted yet) full pre-slatta bases = one of the regiments i'm really proud of... or the Marauders dwarves (i really love those one)
I'll try to make some pics this WE to show you this...
But please, everyone : tell me if you're bored of this journey in the past, or if it's not in the spirit of the forum .... and i'll stop (crying and whining but i'll stop Crying or Very sad )

I have no issue with it. The community section is for us to commune. And this thread is even about miniature games so i have no problem.

And i was a slight bit sarcastic in my post, it's rather obvious that you have a passion for collecting old miniatures.
Which is totally fine my good fellow. Cya around.

Re: digging the archeovaults of GW

Post by Aubec le noir on Mon Nov 05, 2012 7:44 am

So here are the dwarfs in scenario packs :

First of all : the Magnificent Sven = scenario written by Richard Halliwell for GW in the early 80's (in all the scenario Halliwell is playing on words : the first is obvious ... the Magnificent Sven for the Magnificent seven : there's 7 mercenaries on this scenario, but there's more : the boat (yes there's a fighting in a boat) is named the Voltsvaghn... and so on), i possess a copy of this scenario

first dwarf : Sven Hasselfrisiann (note that this dwarf is a defroked ingeneer, friend of the Guild Master Burlock Dammison and it was with him that Burlock made the experiment that blew his right hand away, cause of the shame and repudiation of Sven by the ingeneer's guild)
second dwarf : Juggo Jorikson : a norse dwarf berserker (ancestor of the dwarf slayer).
You can see them in the picture of the 1988 retail catalogue : P0301 norse dwarfs : n7 and n10
i've got both of course... Wink
http://www.solegends.com/citcat88/0301norsedwfs.jpg
and her is the family picture :
http://www.solegends.com/citscenarios/svenf-03.jpg

Blood bath at Ork's drift (another play on words with the famous battle between zulus and britanic army of Rorke's Drift)
lots of named dwarves here : Snorinn and Borinn Finbul, Beli, Gymlet and Osrim Chardz (i've got them all except Chardz that i'm not sure i have), here the family picture
http://www.solegends.com/citscenarios/orcdrift2-03.jpg
and you can see them better in the 1988 catalogue
P0301 norse dwarfs : n8 and n12
http://solegends.com/citcat88/0301norsedwfs.jpg
and P0305 dwarf adventurers n1 and n2
http://solegends.com/citcat88/0305dwfadvs.jpg

The tragedy of McDeath (don't have the scenario) : 2 dwarves here
A dwarf berserker named Juggo (another model but i really think he's the same Juggo as the one in the Magnificent Sven) and a beautiful model with a 2 handed hammer named Arka Zargul (note that i have the Norse Banque and the magician Een McWrecker too cause i loved the models ! Wink )
http://www.solegends.com/citscenarios/mcdeath1-03.jpg
in the P0301 you can see them better : n11 and n16
http://solegends.com/citcat88/0301norsedwfs.jpg
http://www.solegends.com/citscenarios/mcdeath1-03.jpg

The Terror of the Leachmaster (first apparition of Heinrich Kemmler ... very famous warhammer necromancer) : only one dwarf here ... And I DON'T HAVE HIM ! affraid Mad (it's a pity and a shame for me ! Wink Razz )
Gimbrin Fineblade
http://www.solegends.com/citscenarios/lichemasterterrorB-03.jpg

I pass "blood on the street" cause there's no dwarf in it... Wink

the RPG scenario of Death on the Reik with the dwarf miners of Khazid Slumbol and their Lord : Gorim Greathammer (i've got them all)
http://www.solegends.com/citscenarios/reik1-03.jpg
to make a long story short : i played this campaign with a npc made pc Durak Dimholt (that finished Runelord) and Gorim Greathammer is my army lord... So much memories !! Twisted Evil Wink

I pass over "Shadows over Bogenhafen", cause no dwarf in it and it's the beginning of the campaign including "Death on the Reik"

see you soon folks

the runequest licence : only 1 dwarf made for Runequest in the adventurers' box : n 9
http://solegends.com/citrq/citrqb2adventurers/rqbox2x-02.jpg

I pass Lone Wolf licence : no dwarves in it : the Giak are more Goblins than dwarves.

The 1985 LOTR licence : one of the best serie if you ask me, and the dwarves are just superb
ME-2 Fellowship heroes (including Gimli... a superb one)
http://solegends.com/citlotr/me02borgimleg.jpg
ME-15 Gimli : Dwarf hero (on foot and mounted) ... i've got it twice (with lead) he's just gorgous ! affraid
http://solegends.com/citlotr/me15gimli.jpg
ME-33 Dwarves (got the three : beautiful but the one with the spear has a malformation of the helmet on the right side)
http://solegends.com/citlotr/me33dwarves.jpg
i've got some others : Beorn on foot, one easterling on foot and one mounted, one Olog Hai (badly painted) and Bilbo with his book (always loved this model)
http://solegends.com/citlotr/me35beorn.jpg
http://solegends.com/citlotr/me54easterling.jpg
http://solegends.com/citlotr/me52troll.jpg

i've got the Gimli of the fellowship of the ring box

Lots of actually interesting finds there.

Didn't know there was an older series of LOTR models.

Shows what i know.

But then i was born 1988 so that might tell part of the story.

At this point of GW History, scratches were very common, so you could had 2 to 5 models of slayer nearly identical in the posture, save some details and with different faces... Wink

Cool man! It's so nice to see GW come from rogue trader standards in manufacturing to now a days with the multi part plastic sculpts like the dark angels soon to be released

yes it's important to know the past to project oneself in the future... Wink
But i must admit i'm a nostalgic old bastard that love metal, can bear resin and despise plastic !! Twisted Evil
about the DA : i like the deathwing knight's poses but i'm a little desappointed concerning the very poorly dynamic pose of the PC Belial !! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

time to raise this topic !! affraid Twisted Evil
Now i walk through my favorite path ... the path of the dwarves of the 1988 catalogue (this one, as i said before, is a must-have for every Citadel models Collector) and i would like you come with me for a short (or less short) time !! Razz Wink

The norse dwarves, they are just gorgeous and full of style and character. Only 3 of them still escape my grip ... but i'm stubborn, tenacious and perseverant as any dwarf should be ... and one day i'll have them all !! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Razz Razz
http://solegends.com/citcat1988/0301norsedwfs-01.jpg
http://solegends.com/citcat1988/0302norsedwfs-01.jpg

Dwarf adventurers : i just love them .... they are with the norse dwarves the main reason of my collection of Citadel miniatures !! I miss about 10 of them... Evil or Very Mad
http://solegends.com/citcat1988/0305dwfadvs-01.jpg
http://solegends.com/citcat1988/0306dwfadvs-01.jpg

Imperial dwarves (they are beautiful but a little less appealing to me ! Razz ) i miss about 10 of them anyway.
http://solegends.com/citcat1988/0307impfdwfs-01.jpg
Imperial Command Group (i've got only 1 drummer and nearly all the heroes)
http://solegends.com/citcat1988/0308impdwfcomm-01.jpg
you can see at the bottom pf the page, the first flame cannon and one of the first dwarf bolt thrower (i've got both Razz )

Dwarf villagers : i've had some reverses of fortune with them : they are rare and hard to aquire short fellows (i possess only half of them Wink )
http://solegends.com/citcat1988/0310dwfvillagers-01.jpg

Dwarf engineers ( i find them very emblematic of the Warhammer dwarves, and i've got nearly all of them)
http://solegends.com/citcat1988/0311dwfengineers-01.jpg

The famous Bugman's Rangers with the Bugman's Cart (i've got all of them) with the Prince Ulther's Imperial dwarves (i love this regiment, that i showed you before) (and the warmachines of the Chaos dwarves, but we'll see that another day Wink )

http://solegends.com/citcat1988/0303chaosdwfs-01.jpg
http://solegends.com/citcat1988/0304chaosdwfs-01.jpg
And the Chaos Dwarf Renegades (equivalent of the Dwarf Lords of Legend that you have on the bottom of the page and that i posted before ! Wink ) really love them because i find them very stylish.
http://solegends.com/citcat1988/0309dwfboxes-01.jpg

From the 1989 Catalogue (named part 2 on 3)
Here is the first Bloodball Dwarf Deathroller (in the middle of the page)

and the Bloodball Starplayers (including one dwarf with bazooka ! Twisted Evil )
http://solegends.com/citcat1989/c892006bbstars-00.jpg

From the Late 1989 Summer Catalogue

http://solegends.com/citcat19892suml/c89suml-074311-2-01.jpg
The first apperance of the terminology "Dwarf Clansmen"... that was just at this point a new regroupment of Norse dwarves that already exist in the 1988 Catalogue, but soon enough it will become a reality...
And as you can see in the first picture, thare was still dwarf women warriors ! Wink

i focused my collection on Dwarves, not Chaos dwarves. I put them here, because they were on the same pages as the dwarves in the 1988 Catalogue.
But promise, if you're interested in Chaos dwarves, i'll dig futher for them, after my dwarf sequence ! Twisted Evil Wink

Haha! Love the description.

"The image of a cannon that blows things out of its rear end is supposedly connected to the sculptor's feeling towards his boss, whom the face may resemble."
