okay first attempt with new codex this is for a local tournament in september
i am thinking of going uber elite using drago to make paladins troops and still have his GM power to make other things troops or give them something useful depending on mission. mostly fought on 6ftx4 boards foes likely to be blood angels, space wolves , necrons, eldar, infantry based guard, maybe the odd chaos player but no daemons , mech guard , etc

HQ

Lord Dragio
Elite

Vindicare Assassin

Troops

Paladin squad
X5 Paladins
X2 Psycannons
X1 Apoc
X2 MC halberds

Paladin squad
X5 Paladins
X1 MC warding staff
X2 MC swords
X1 MC hammer
X1 Brotherhood banner

Heavy Support

Grey Knight Venerable Dreadnought (x2 Twin linked Autocannons and Psy ammo)
Dreadknight, Daemon hammer, Hv Psycannon

Purge Squad
X6 PAGK, x4 Psycannon

Should i balance the paladins as above or have a big unit and a small unit to get the best from the banner thinking of using drago to make them infiltrators Smile rather than deep striking in

if you get 1 big unit of pals with the banner that you combat squad after depending of the scenario then i think the apoc will be good, if you make 2 units imho forget the apoc to take another pal and a banner (much more useful imho than the apoc here) and maybe another staff...
very interesting list but it will be hard to play considering the poor body count you have... but it will be fun i guess Wink

The point is, he must take two unit choices, so 2 separate paladin squads.

How do you plan to bring yuor paladins in combat? Deepstrike, wait for the enemy or footslogging (that would be painfully slow)?

was thinking of running the paladins as a groups of 9 with drago to get the best from the banner and apoc and lone paladin with warding staff as a distraction my club is running new objective based missions one is Break the spirit where the aim is to destroy the enemies most expensive unit Smile
depending on mission i may make the enemy come to me , to risk deep strike with a big paladin unit is a gamble too far Smile

I think the dreadnought is a bit out of place in this build since it's the only armour you've got. Every missile launcher on the board will be squarely aimed in on it. You could drop the vindicare and go with a techmarine w/conversion beamer and servo skulls. That would allow you to bolster defenses to give your dread(and maybe your purg squad too) better cover and give you a chance at reparing any damage to him. The conversion beamer would allow for some long range AT which covers some of what your vindicare would have done. Cheap servo skulls could be useful as an area deterant to enemy outflankers/deep strikers or a beacon for your termies making it less of a gamble to teleport a big unit and you'd also get an extra 30ish points to play around with.

a good point , I might drop the dread as it seems a lot of points for some ap4 missiles and as you say all AT is going to be gunning for him and AV12 wont keep him alive that long , venerable or not

okay new version, this drops the ven dread for a techmarine with beamer to castle with my purge squad also adds an inquis to that squad to enhance them massively vs psykers Smile a few servo skulls to make DS less risky and places the bulk of paladins in an uber squad with dragio ,(remember this tournament has 1 objective of skill the most expensive squad) lots of Master crafted goodness in main squad so when i hit i hit hard

Me thinks some would call you crazy for having a lone paladin, but I think it's an interesting list nonetheless. You'll struggle against heavy armor and you'll have to shy away from melta toting vet squads and the likes with your paladins. I think it's a managable list though. Did you consider upgrading the lone paladin to an apoc to increase his survivability? I also like the idea of conversion beamer + astral aim = AT anywhere on the board.

i hadnt thought about the consquences of astral aim on the beamer Smile
I was more thinking of him getting a silly BS with the beamer vs any psykers at the back
the points cost of making the lone an apoc is rather high but interesting idea,

Buying another pally is far more worthwhile than an apoc, its pretty hard to justify an apoc in a 10man pally squad led alone a single.
Its an interesting concept though! Could be super effective against some, not so much against others with plenty of ap1/2

I'll let you know how it plays out , I had thought about dropping the techmartine and having a paladin with a psycannon and an extra marine for the purge squad as this would allow a full str term squad and let me combat squad them into 2 fives as well as the loner. but have decided to keep the conversion beamer fun Smile
