Hello!
Hi there Brothers! I am new to the Grey Knights...I'm not entirely new to 40k but I have only ever really dabbled in it but now I really want to collect an army and I know that Grey Knights are (insert typical comic relief)..but I think it'll be rewarding and fun.
I don't have any units yet, but I plan on creating a very shooty based army of pure Grey Knights, though I am conflicted for anti-tank because I really want dreadnought(s) but all the fluff really points to this is such a rarity..shame....I guess I'll just have to "settle" for a (2-3 one day) for a Land Raider..ahaha

Re: Hello!
Welcome! Glad to see another new face. We're pretty excited every time we get a new member - we have alot of talent and knowledge to share (both on the hobby side and tactics side), and can't wait to see/hear your take on things. Let us know if you every have any questions you can't resolve by poking around or using search.
To address the issues in your post...
In about 4 months we won't be bad, as a new codex is predicted around then. You might have to contest with people claiming your following the "flavour of the month" but hey, your probably not friends with those people anyway.
The new codex may contain new fluff and shooty units so for now i'd slowly build up and paint a good core consisting of bunch of regular GK and terminators. These will never go out of style, regardless of what else we get good.

Re: Hello!
Welcome!
Your face a conundrum to be sure, lots of LR's which are considered cheesy, and still should be extremely rare in a GK army, or lots of Dreads which are pointed out in the fluff as being extremely rare, but are a more all round choice that fills one of the most lacking areas in our army!
As MJSwasey said your best bet is the normal PAGK (normal GK's) or GKT (Terminator GKs) as they will probably remain unchanged gearwise when the new codex arrives, which is looking like Q1 next year.
Shooty wise, lots of Psycannons is probably your best bet. They are expensive but this edition quantity is often better than quality, and they pump out plenty of shots!

Re: Hello!
Welcome to our ranks Brother!
Both Brothers MJ and Z are correct. Since we are getting a remake of our codex soon, try to concentrate on core units. The GK termies are still one of the best looking models around
Don't be afraid to use LR's though, not only are they tougher to crack than dreads but they give your squads mobility and even mobile terrain if it gets popped. Personally, my mobile build with at least 2 LR's (godhammer pattern) has given me the highest winning percentage.

Re: Hello!
Welcome Brother, I'm sure you won't be disapointed with GK!
For a shooting army Psycanons seem indeed to be a good choice (and we all hope it 'll become even more powerfull!)
I would tell you too... to concentrate on troops and Termies...
LR and Dread are fun but expensive... and GK are expensive army....
Enjoy!!!!

Re: Hello!
Thanks for such a warm welcome! I plan on starting out with a BC and a Term squad and then getting two squads of PAGKs and then going from there, and I am definitely throwing a psycannon with the BC and another in the term squad, and give the PAGKs psycannon bolts. We'll see I am very excited, I really love our models so I hope they dont change them to much when they do the new release....
speaking of....do you guys know yet (or is it leaning heavily one direction...rumors etc..) as to whether it's going to be a DH codex or is it going to be like DH, WH and maybe even Deathwatch?

Re: Hello!
hi brother and welcome
Using and abusing of psycannons is always fun imho (i love psyCs)
just a remark or 2 :
- psybolts are only for the justicar and there's a trick (that i consider very borderline) that is giving artificial armour to a justicar and then giving him a psycannon... well there's discussion around here to determine if it's possible or not (but i give you the trick anyway)
- there a topic about the last rumours (note that they are only rumours) and according the last one the future 'dex seems to a DH one ... but take it with lots of salt.

Re: Hello!
Theres a main rumor thread and a few offshoots if you'd like to read for yourself all the speculation, rumors, he said she saids. The thread basically include every rumor we could find from a semi credible source. The overall gist is WH and DH wont be combined, and we'll still have the inquisition/some IGish units involved.
Aubec is right, Psy Bolts cant be taken by the full squad, only by the justicar, and they're quite honestly mostly useless, as they really only work against zoanthropes, daemons, and one or two DE/eldar models and only apply to one storm bolters shots. save your points and get more psycannons/incinerators, and don't forget targeters!

Re: Hello!
Welcome. The B-C, GKT squad and 2 PAGK squads your planning on is a good start. Hopefully by the time your getting those done we'll have more solid info on the new dex and you can take advantage of any unforseen units/changes that may be in the offing.
