Recruit Enlisted.
Hey All,
I'm Zadok, currently I don't own any Grey Knights...yet. It's an army i've always secretly wanted to get.
I know the rules, novels and fluff. It's just a case of purchasing the army (a Pure GK list) and then learning to play them on the tabletop.
I'm hoping these forums will be full of knowledge and wisdom for such a cause.
I also understand, there's going to be a new GK/DH codex due out within the next 6 months or so - What good timing aye? they must have known!
So i will resist all urges to buy buy buy now, and discipline myself on reading up and researching GK Tactica (even if it's not 5 Edition) in the hopes it will guide me to make good sound decisions when the new rules & models are released.
Thank you.
Z

Welcome Brother Zadok! Good timing as you say. Enjoy your stay and feel free to ask any question, whether it be tactical or modelling/painting

Welcome. Yes, at this point in time it would be wise to hold off on buying GK stuff even though our current models are just way too cool.

Re: Recruit Enlisted.
Welcome! I'm sure since you are looking at tacticas you've read the "way of the water warrior". If not i can post a link, it's just one take on GK and you don't have to play that way to win, but it's a good read to get started before you learn your style.
If you have any questions about units, lists, 'combos', strategies, or tactics, please don't hesitate to ask! We want you to be as prepared as possible when you finally join the order, and be able to join in the discussion about the new codex when (/if) it comes!
See you around!

Re: Recruit Enlisted.
Thanks guys for the warm welcome, i havent checked the way of the water warrior out yet, but i'll get on it immediately.
Yesterday i just checked out a number of armylists - to get an idea and taste has to what people are fielding. I drew up a list (despite the fact the new codex could change things), and it seems i'm along the right lines.
But keep a look for my posts in the relevent areas - I have plenty of questions and hunger for advice.
I'm still getting use to all the "white" of the forum design, your eyes do adjust don't they - in time? I was just thrilled to see a GK forum!

Re: Recruit Enlisted.
Welcome to the forums!
I wouldn't say its wise not to buy stuff honestly... Dark Eldar are the next release, and there is no guarantee we will be after them (although rumours suggest it).
It could be a long wait for new rules and models, and the current models are are already pretty amazing.
It can be hard to get models these days however!
Anyway there is plenty of strategies and tactics for a GK army available here, but its still a hard army to play!
(BTW the Water Warrior tactic is extremely good, but also outdated. I never suggest avoiding it, but its 4E, and needs to be reapplied to 5th)

Ok, thanks for that Zeal,
Out of interest, How does a Pure GK army fair against the 5th Edit armies: specifically Orks lead by Ghazghull, Chaos lead by Deamon princes, Space Marines...
Or maybe you could point me out to the necessary posts?

Re: Recruit Enlisted.
Its always an uphill battle, although obviously some armies we are more effective against than others.
Mech is one of our biggest problems, since we lack reliable/spammable anti tank, and highly mech'd armies can tend to take us apart.
That being said we stand a chance against -most- armies if your a skilled enough tactician, AND your opponent isn't way out of your gaming league.
With Land Raiders a pure GK army is certainly viable, but you are sinking alot of points, and making your army even more elite.
I'd suggest checking out the Tactica section, as well as any Batreps by Rivan, although starting with the Way of the Water Warrior isn't a bad start, since it basically explains how the army works, and then anything else you read should be more applicable to 5th Edition.
