What Will You Do?
So the other day I took a bunch of old GK models down to my FLGS to work on out while I hung out with some people there. An Ultramarine player was impressed with one of my Justicar conversions and tried to convince me to sell it to him to use as a smurf chapter master with storm bolter+ relic blade. Needless to say I immediately went in search of my NFW so I could slay the heretic who suggested it.
However the discussion in the rumour thread made me wonder. New plastic kits are almost guaranteed with a new codex, and GW has been producing some beautiful new kits lately. So will you continue to use your old models or will you replace them entirely with new ones? Personally I think most of my forces will be given a final burial in some corner of my attic, After 10 years or so of smiting heretics and daemons in the name of the Emperor they're looking very old and battered. I'll keep some of my conversions as justicars/brother-captains and I'll keep my current GKT retinue since they're some of the only models whose paintjob I'm really proud of.

Personally, I think our current GK models will always look awesome (especially our GKT's). Granted, the new plastic kits will probably be REALLY cool due to better production technology.
I will definitely keep mine active and probably mix them up with the new ones for variety.
By the time I've finished my 2000 pt NMM army, I would have devoted A LOT of labor (of love ) on them to get rid of them

i will probably buy some new GK to use with my old ones so i have more models with different poses
but it all depends on how they look like the new daemons look worse then the old ones

Any new plastics will have to be extremely exceptional to surpass the metal GK ones. As long as the weapon layout on the models still stays the same I'll be using my old ones. Of course I'll buy any new characters and/or vehicles that don't already exist. I'll be damned if I line GW's greedy little pocket by re-doing an entire army with glitzy new sprues for an army they've left dead in the dirt all these years.

I think that they will be cheaper, but not much....
it kinda depends if the Grey Knights force organization stays the same or not.

If they stay the same (small squads of 7-8 marines) I expect them to still be fairly expensive. Look at Death Company, 5 man squad costs £20, a regular tac squad only costs £22.50. Although I'll admit the DC have a ton of bitz, which is hat I'd hope from GK if they come at a similar price.

Re: What Will You Do?
When new kits come out I will probably try to get 15 - 20 PAGK (phasing out my metal PAGK which I'm not particularly fond of) and use them with my current metal GKTs (which I love ). From there when I feel ready I will expand my army with GKTs. Thats basically it for my GK army, since I already have a LRC, LR and a dread.

Re: What Will You Do?
I will be interested to see exactly what they do release in plastic to be honest.
I wouldn't be at all suprised if PAGK don't just stay as they are...
GKT there have been rumours of plastics, but PAGK nothing substantial.
As others have said they would be hard pressed to surpass the current models, and we could have a repeat of daemons, where many amazing lines are replaced by pretty ordinary and lame lines but in plastic.
If new GK have the Storm Bolter incorporated into the NFW's I might consider upgrading, otherwise I doubt it however.

Re: What Will You Do?
Well that's an issue that currently confront's GW isn't it? What to do with all of the GK players out there that have painted and played with their expensive metal mini's over the past eight years. Not many people would be willing to give up on their old metal models immeadatly- which doesn't translate into sales right away.
I for one, converting and repainting my army for now a 4th time (have I mentioned that I like GK's?), will indeed buy the new models when they come out. But not all out at first- unlike most people when they start up a new force. But rather slowly over a long period of time, whilst incorporating bits from these sets into existing metal models. If and when a new codex comes out, I will continue to use the old metal models as there sorta gonna be a sign that "oh hey someone that played the army when it wasn't the most powerful thing out there." Plus there's something to be said when your army weighs more the gaming table.

Re: What Will You Do?
i'll keep my metal GKs (including the very old GKT with the 2 inquisitors in Termies) cause i'm a metal fanatic / aficionado
but i'll make a concesion if the plastic kits are exceptionals (and only if they are that much) i'll mix them with some metal legs torso or arms that i bought in prevision of those new kits and FW product that i pray for !
and for the difference of painting between old and new ones .... that what is Glanzer made for !!

Nice to see so many of you willing to keep the old models. As much as I love them i just can't stand working with metal for some reason, most likely because I keep super gluing myself to them >.< I think I;ll use mine for the first few new games. I wanna be rolling dice with my new army a couple of hours after I have my codex in hand

Re: What Will You Do?
I'll be keeping my Knights. They have slain many foes and I hold them in the highest regards of my two complete armies (Grey Knights and Thousand Sons). They have come through many trials and have always (well most of the time) came out on top, just pushing them to the side doesn't sit well with me. So I will (based on what is given in the newer codex) add models in and out of my squads based on the weapon options for the squads and add a whole new squad to work on if I seem to have the points for it.

I am probably not going to buy any new kits, mainly becouse i can't afford them.
And the second part is that i don't need them.
So my old army straight from the 3rd edition, booyah.

Re: What Will You Do?
My plan to retire my army took a massive hit today, some jerk stole my bag out of my car and it had most of my GK in it. If I wanna keep playing them 'til the new dex I have to replace them with metal now which means no point by shiny new plastics when they come out.

Re: What Will You Do?
Thanks guys, kinda p'ed off when i saw. My GK army consists of 12PAGK and 5 termies atm. However reinforcements are on the way from ebay Titan. Managed to pick up 9 PAGK, 4 PAGK w/Psyacannons, BCStern and a termie with psycannon for less than £50. Since they all come unpainted I'm gonna put some serious work into doing them up and keeping them around after the new codex comes out.

And not to be harsh, but keep better care to lock your car.
Unless the assailant smashed a window, then it's not much to do about it.
Sucks lots anyway, i would go berzerk if my army got stolen.

i'm with you brother
my friend were afraid to speak to me 3 days long when i let fall my army one day ... so i can't imagine my mood if some &é"'(§èçà<è§ jerk would have stolen it from me !!
which would be very difficult as i never let my army far away from me when i travel with it... and stealing my house is somewhat hard (40 kg dog and alarm...)
really i'm very sorry for you brother

I'm going to be thinning out my current models but I will definately be keeping some. My GK's were really the first models where I really felt proud of the paint job I did on them. Also, if our GK's do end up being the new bandwagon army I'll want to keep some retro stuff, just to be able to say I played them when they were a truly elite army!
