Slaughter Smackdown 40K GT in Anaheim, CA
Just pre-registered for this upcoming tourney on Sep 3-5. This will be my first actual GT tournament so I'm pretty excited For any of our Brothers who may be in the area and are interested, the website is www.socalsmackdown.com
Total of 5 rounds/scenarios for a maximum total of 200 pts:
100 battle points (20/round)
40 painting points
30 composition points
30 sportsmanship points
This definitely gives me the incentive to get off my butt and finish my 2000 pt NMM army So I have roughly a month and a half to do it.
I've posted this list before but here it is again for everyone's opinions and suggestions. Don't know how many other GK players will be present but I will definitely do my best to represent our Brotherhood well
Please bear in mind that I will be playing an ALL GK list so no suggestions about ISTs, inquisitors or assassins please. The core principle I'll be adhering to will be SSS: Sustained Superior Shooting. That being said, my list is tailored for A LOT of shooting.
Strike Force Rivan
HQ - GM w/ m-c nfw, p-cannon, si, ph and HH + 3 GKTs (1 p-cannon)
EL - BC w/ p-cannon + 3 GKTs (1 p-cannon)
TR - Justicar w/ targ, mb + 5 PAGKs (2 p-cannons)
TR - Justicar w/ targ, mb + 5 PAGKs (2 p-cannons)
TR - Justicar w/ targ, fg + 5 PAGKs (2 p-cannons)
HS - GK dread w/ twllc, ml, ea & sl

I just can't belive that me,a Chaos Space Marine player actually had a clue of what were those 2 things and a GK player didn't.I guess the language differences might play a part in that.

That or the fact that chaos is constantly getting beaten by these things and you fear them so you are very familiar with them!

Thanks Aubec. I've played the 1750 version of this build but the 2000 pt version should function the same way. I just haven't tried it against the newer codices like the Blood Angels. We'll see

Have you had chance to learn about the newer codecies? BA etc...?
From my understanding of things, your force will be able to shred the approaching BAs, it's just close combat that may proove troublsome. But still, if you utilize the water technique and remain reactive to the enemies advances by maintaining you distance as much as possible and shooting the crap out of them, you should be fine.
I have A LOT of faith that you will do REALLY well at this event Brother.
Is the whole force painted now?........If so we NEED pics!!! Also I for one would REALLY love it if you could take pics of your army in action.

I'll finally be able to start painting this weekend. I had to organize my garage so I'd have a comfortable work area. I'll post pics as I make progress with each unit
I did buy the Blood Angels codex and I now have all the other codices too. I'll be going over all these in the next month to know more about all the other armies.

Awesome Brother Rivan! I've been DYING for some actual competition > I only hope there will be many heretics to purge there, cause I am going to do all in my power to sign up and get down there!
I like your list Rivan a lot; the psycannon heavy-ness is pretty different then normal, and though expensive it will be sweet to see in action
Yep, now I have more incentive to re-base my army and clean them up for 2000 points! All I can say at the moment is that with 2000 points, its going to be 3 LR's, Stern and a retinue, a Grandmaster and a retinue, and probably 3 squads of 7 Grey Knights with Incinerators for the most part, and a squad of psycannons perhaps
>D I like to get right to my chaotic enemy and lay them down with NFW's personally.

Re: Slaughter Smackdown 40K GT in Anaheim, CA
After reading the rules for the GT again and noticing that special characters are allowed. I was wondering if I should include BC Stern in my list. The thought is really tempting but I'm also keeping composition in mind since that's a potential 30 pts.
I've come up with an alternate list w/c includes BC Stern so please let me know what you think. Is it more competitive? Does it make sense fluff wise? Which list will score more comp points in your opinion? I'm putting the original list here too so you don't have to go back to the 1st page. Thanks!
Original list
HQ - GM w/ m-c nfw, p-cannon, SI, PH & HH
3 GKT (1 p-cannon)
EL - BC w/ p-cannon + 3 GKT (1 p-cannon)
TR - 6 PAGK (2 p-cannons; targ & melta bombs)
TR - 6 PAGK (2 p-cannons; targ & melta bombs)
TR - 6 PAGK (2 p-cannons; melta bombs)
HS - Dread w/ twllc, ml & ea
HS - LR w/ ea & sl
HS - LR w/ ea & sl
Alternate list
HQ - GM w/ m-c nfw, p-cannon, PH & HH
HQ - BC Stern + 4 GKT (1 p-cannon)
TR - 7 PAGK (2 p-cannons; targ & melta bombs)
TR - 7 PAGK (2 p-cannons; targ & melta bombs)
TR - 7 PAGK (2 p-cannons; targ & melta bombs)
HS - Dread w/ twllc, ml & ea
HS - LR w/ ea, sl & search light
HS - LR w/ ea & sl
Having 2 GM types is really tempting and can be really versatile plus I could have a lot of fun w/ Stern's re-roll ability. I end up w/ slightly larger troop units as well. The down side is I have 2 less GKT and 2 less p-cannons. AT capability stays the same.

The search light is usually pretty useless - the LR's can't start on the board, so it's a small range to be useful in.
I would like to point out that shooty GK looses out to the most popular tournament list, Leafblower, and to LR Spam. But besides those proverbial rocks to your scissors, it should be a great showing if you dodge them!
I would like to see you drop the GM for a BC. Theres really not a lot of multiple multiwound character lists you need the extra force weapon for. I'd like to see something akin to
BC stern +4Termies
BC+4 termies
7 PAGK (two are psy) targeter, melta
7 PAGK (two are psy) targeter, melta
7 PAGK (two are psy) targeter, melta
LR EA Smoke
LR EA Smoke
Dread Multimelta CCW EA smoke
17 points of upgrades (MC on BC's weapon? Incinerator on dread?)
I know it goes against your firepower theme, but two flanking land raiders full of termies are SOOO powerful with the old smoke rules, and a MM CCW dread can easily hide behind a sideways LR while rushing forward or chill on your side of the map behind cover to defend an objective/your shooters from all comers.

For your lists rivan i prefer the first one you made. This is because although i like stern i dont run him with another GM unless they both have terminator squads. This seems perticular with your list as you want to utalise the LR so for me it would be better to stick the two terminator squads in the LR and have them act as speed bumps then to stick your GM to a GK squad and chuck that into a LR especially considering the 2 psycannons you almost certainly want to try and use every turn.
Hope that helps
