A Very Sad Time. Empty A Very Sad Time.

Post by Snowfire Sun Jul 11, 2010 6:16 am

I'm giving up the gaming.

It's too much hassle trying to locate a player in my area who isn't a uber-power gamer or the club who insists on changing rules so the older members of the club get more benefits for their armies.

BUT, I'm not giving up the painting. I'm going to keep on painting and occasionally purchasing models I like the look of. Plus I am still going to be active on the forums.

I might try and sell off some of my models eventually, but I'm going to keep my DH (eventually dig them out from wherever they are hiding from 2 lots of moving house and repair them).

SO, my last games will be the local tourny - 11-12th September, in which my IG will be making their first ever debut onto a tabletop. 1750 points, 20 scoring units, 6 kill points and 158 models in total. NO VEHICLES.

I have 9 weeks to complete assembly and paint this mob.

Nothing like a dead-line to get you motivated for painting.

It's sad to hear you stop gaming. But if it's so difficult to find opponents then I can understand your problem. Good luck in the tourney!

People who only powergame is very boring.

Like my local gaming club, it's not even fun to try to join any tournament or such as all the opponets has cheesed the creap out of their codexes and field only the very best.

Or they play imperial guard vehicles who is underpriced and balanced towards no codex exept other imperial guard (with the same vehicles)

I am somewhat stoping gaming too, i will try to get a cool, no powergaming allowed campaigns going in apocalypse or similar.
Or playing necromunda with friends.

After all, 40k miniature game is not that great a game. Totally unbalanced, no real usage of their stat system (all troops basically has the same, stats such as 6-8 is rarely ever used) and the game isn't really that complicated in its structure.

Fits well for mass infantry shooting, not really doing it for the few squads vs few squads action 40k really is.
Therefore apocalypse is much better, there is how to play 40k.

Man, that's sad to hear. I'm so fortunate to be in a community where power-gaming is not an issue. Even the few who do bring the odd Cracker Barrel army are still a pleasure to play against. Changing rules to benefit one over another is totally unheard of here. Try to hang in there Snowfire and don't do away with your models too quickly. You never know what's around the bend and things could change.

I dont play much these days either, but I'm still going strong with my list creation and very slowly but strong with my painting and conversions (VERRRRRRRRRRY slowly).

Nothing worse than having no one to game, what you need to do is recruit people! Thats what I did in my school days Very Happy

Good luck w/ the tourney Brother Snowfire. And like NF said, you don't know what's around the bend (like maybe new GK stuff? Very Happy )

I'm glad you're not giving up on painting. That's what really got me into the game in the first place. Being able to play w/ my models is just a REALLY AWESOME fringe benefit Razz Razz

Keep up the painting man! I understand how you feel; I seem to have run out of people to play in general!

Either I deal with powergamers who take winning way too seriously, or I fight the same people over and over, who never adapt their tactics or change their lists or anything. Its very infuriating and BORING! Maybe I'll go find a tourney somewhere to solve that, but who knows. My hope is that you find some good friends to game with Smile

I'd guess you'd be way bored with me fairly fast Nausaden, i have changed my army squads choice twice.

I've basically had roughly the same gk army since i made it, mostly changing how many stormtroopers are in it Razz

And don't feel to bad about stop playing 40k, the models are still cool and you can always try other systems.
A friend of mine really loves warmachine (which is tournament compatible unlike 40k, meaning balanced, cool huh) and there is other games too.

Or just paint, it's fun enough on its own.

Aye, 40K isent everything anyway! I mean, its not like we all jumped into Grey Knights to be the most competitive and unstoppable force, right? It was the lore and the models Smile

I thought about quiting to and enjoy the side of WH40k as the hobby of painting. I say this, you will have your time to cool off and become the master painter that you will be... but there's something that beats quietly deep inside me telling me that my time will come. As a GK player it isn't easy, we will be beaten down many more times than we'll see victories. It's the hope and the faith in the Emperor that we can beat the overpowering odds which purges us into better players or persons, the core of a true Grey Knight. Fight the good fight, your time will come battle brother.
