Hello all sorry I haven't been on the forum in...well half a year No been pretty busy. So much so that I've only been on my computer for like an hour a day! As a recap my old PC and I had a falling out, I'm about a week shy of finishing my engineering courses and I got a slight job change at work. cheers

so... I've been looking over the 'way of the water warrior' for my Grey Knights and found them wanting, I've created a new 2000 list to try out after I've got the time to implement it.

Almost everything can remain mobile while taking long-range fire solutions with enough armor to withstand most punishment from heavy weapons (especially in cover). Once everything is weakened the land raiders would punch through and spill 20 grey knights into the enemy.

so is it likable or should I tweak one or two things?

You've got a very low number of scoring units IMHO. I would at least take a third troops choice but that's just me.

hello and welcome back
but I agree with brother Aeddon : 2/3 of the scenarii are taking/keeping objectives, so you need more troops : 3 or 4, that you can have in exchange of one of your GKT unit.
And BC is infortunatly a poor HQ, with his 1PV and no FW ability, so i suggest that you find the points for having a GKGM, or cheaper but good using Stern.
but, instead you can keep your list and have fun Razz Razz Wink

I would say you would be better off going for another troop choice 2/3 games are objective based and you need troops to claim them, yes others can contest but not claim so all your opo has to do is kill your 2 PAGK squads and they have pretty much won and as great as we are we are just as squishy as regular SM.

I guess you are going for Pure GKs so the melta inquis stormtrooper build is out in which case IMO the best way forward would be the blitz (as I call it) build.

Get rid of them LR godhammers and take crusaders much better for anti armour and also good anti troop also can move 12 inches and fire 3 weapons which is nice.

They the same price with psy bolts and smoke and already come with EA.

Terms can not take metla bombs so lose them on the elites and HQ.

Lose the second term squad.

You should have 1 HQ and retinue, play around with ret size as you see fit and lose the psycannon you dont want them foot sloggin u want them up close and personal so take incin on BC and on one of the terms and 2 LRC. Deep strike the HQ and his ret.

now this should leave space for 4 squads of troops aprox I would say give 2 of them 2 psycannons for objectives at your board edge and the other 2 with an incin each. Pop these in the LRCs and steam as fast as poss at the opo. Deep Strike behind and let your 2 PAGK squads sit at the back and keep you 2 objectives and have a nice huge killing zone.

Well that just leaves me with what I've had before this decision, it was more aggressive but lacked anti-armor but I could try to fiddle with it.

I usually ask permission before using my redeemers but they are just terrifying to horde based armies like nids and orks that and the psyk-out launchers are slightly better than frag launchers in that the initiative 10 bonus when assaulting is ALWAYS given regardless of whether I'm assaulting through terrain or not!

The sad part was that my anti-tank was limited and I wanted to change that without sacrificing too much from my original list.

Take crusaders they are much better anti armour than the godhammer with the multimelta and yes redeemer is better but we dont have it yet (soon I hope).

To get more anti armour u need to ant inquisitors and stormtroopers here is my draft new 2000 pts list:

HQ
BC + Incin
4 x GKT + Incin

Elite
3 of the following
Inquis with Targeter
Rhino + Extra Armour + Smoke
2 x Mystic
Gun Sevitor + Multi Melta
Gun Servitor + Plasma Cannnon

Troops
2 of the following
Justicar + Targeter
5 x PAGK + 2 x psycannons

2 of the following
5 x IST + melt gun
Rhino + extra Armour + smoke

Heavy Support
2 x LRC + smoke

With this u got loads of anti armour with all the meltas 5 multi meltas and 2 meltas thats bucket loads.

Plus plasma cannons and the rest of the LRC weapons good anti infantry then you got the incin terms for deep striking in the mystics give you a huge deepstrike zone of death and then you got strong PAGK for holding objectives far away from the enemy with a large zone of death or thats the theory i have not had a chance to test it.

I'm kinda liking the first list. With 3 Termie squads you definitely enough muscle to push your opponent off any objectives which compensates for your lack of Troop choices. However, the second list is definitely the safer. Field at least one Godhammer though for the range. And welcome back. Smile

Thanks Nemesis, my Redeemer tank force was very nasty and won me several games leaving at least a few of my oppenents screaming "How did you beat me!" at my face in the end. Although tank heavy armies were alway my bane, thats why I came up with the first list on this page it offered mobility to all my units while granting me almost constant firepower at maximum range 36-48. The whole prospect was to wipe out anything that could hold objectives and snuff out the heavy hitters when they'd be dead. 4 twin lascannons would make sure of that plus 3 squads of terminatos with dual psycannons would always be on the move firing and have nothing to worry about when being shot back. (since shrouding protects us at an estimated 30-38 inch distance)

I prefer terminators (Grey Knight especially) for their intimidating stats in the game;

1. hard to hurt (can't ignore 2+ saves)
2. best guns (little bang bangs won't do!)
3. close combat beasts (practically walking wood chippers)
4. AWE inspiring!!! (whats that? You want me to grovel?! But people are watching)

hmm...now that I think of it the first list was under pointed, looks like I'm back to the drawing board.

Stern will ride in with the PAGK squad with the incinerator in the Redeemer while the other squads and dreads will be mobile fire support. It offers 3 troop squads and a more reliable HQ, the weapon load out for the dreads was for simple symetry really since almost everything on foot will have a psycannon or an equivelant (being twin-linked helps too). I know they don't offer much in ranged anti-tank but against light armies like Eldar, Orks or Nids they will be pretty hard hitting.

So...does it pass the grade?

First off, Welcome back!

I like your lists, especially the last one- with the three scoring units. You will have to very careful with how to place and move them, as they die just easily as standard Space Marines.

Give it a shot (always proxy first if you don't have the models!), and please tell us all how you do.

Also be wary of running out and buying a ton of the metal GK's, as there are some rumors afoot concerning a new and upcoming book this summer er...this year. At least hold off on the huge purchases until something more concrete comes down from GW.

i prefer your last list.
but i would have put Stern and the termies in the LRR, i know that they can't take on objective, but they can kick-ass to every squad they will encounter and you can use your termies as HQ retinue, letting you have another elite choice if you want.

The only thing I'd consider swapping out is one the TLHB on a dread for a TLLC, although that would mean finding a couple more points to spare. Otherwise it looks pretty cool, but no point taking my word for it I have 0 tournament experience.
