Ruminating On GK Heroes
For the past month or two I've gone through the Ork, SW and Tyranid codices from front to back. One thing that struck me was the plethora of varied characters you could choose from each dex. Since GW seems to be going the character-heavy route it got me anticipating that we might see more than than the paltry two we have now when our new dex finally sees the light. Then I got to thinking that because of the Grey Knights sole purpose of killing Daemons (and Chaos stuff too) combined with their strict 'monastic' regime, it might be a lot harder to create diverse and individualistic heroes. We don't have the wackiness of the Orks, the diversified doctrines of the many SM Chapters nor the bio-adaptability of the Nids as creative pools to spawn as many colorful characters. We might have a little more leeway with Inquisitors but again, the banishing of Daemonic forces is their main goal as well. I dunno, I'm I wrong thinking this way?

Re: Ruminating On GK Heroes
i think you're wrong
imagine if it's only a malleus codex :
-Alaric would be of some interest
- a named GM will be too
- Updated Stern
- Updated Coteaz
- why not an IST heroe
- Another Inquisitor (you said radical ?)
and if it's an Inquisition codex :
you can add 2 or 3 SoB HQ and why not a deathwatch heroe ...
So you see there's something to do with malleus or inquisition codices.

Creativity should trump all else if GW has their shit straight in the new Codex.
Inquisitors are boring for me.
Brother-Captain Alaric please.

Re: Ruminating On GK Heroes
I have a feeling its going to go in the direction Brother Aubec mentioned...different characters for each ordos. As for GKs, I'm pretty sure they will update Stern and Coteaz or add another hero or inquisitor. And maybe a venerable dread character who was a former GM?

if they do an inquisition codex they could add a ordo xenos inquisitor like ravenor or eisenhorn with there psychic and combat abilities they would be good and ravenor would be different as a special character

GW are quite into having "upgrade" characters (as in not actually HQ choies) as well, thats where i see Alaric coming in to play...

Let's not forget Dvorn or Tancred. I can see Dvorn having more strength or a hammer without initiative 1.

While we're at it, why not entire special squads?

Agreed, every GK from the books. Even the dead ones.
Including the dead Grand Master with the lightning bolt sword, from the battle that took place at the beginning of the first one, 1000 years before Alaric's story started.
What was his name? Help a nerd out.

Re: Ruminating On GK Heroes
Grand Master Mandulas (spelling?).
Here's a little tidbit about him, he was the sole survivor of the Grey Knight Terminator force that fought against Angron during the first war of Armageddon.

Thats him, thanks brother.
Where is the Armageddon fluff from?
While we're at it, how about the Chaplain on Titan that gave Alaric Mandela's sword, again I'm terrible with names.

Re: Ruminating On GK Heroes
Actually i think there's a confusion here.
The GM that "kills" Angron in armageddon I is : GM Aurellian and he died just after the revocation of Angron and was caried by the only GKT survivors (11 or 10 if i remember well)
The GM with the sword on the beginning of "Grey Knight" is Mandulis i think

Sorry been a while since I looked into Armageddon, but either way, he was there, and it was before he became a Grand Master.

Re: Ruminating On GK Heroes
In an inquisition codex here's what I think:
- A few GM/BC heroes including Stern
- Inquisitor lords from Ordo Malleus, Hereticus and Xenos
- Deathwatch commander hero
- Special justicar or celestine for squads
- MAYBE special assassin character
- Tank commander
- Dreadnought (I don't actually think it is likely though)
- Cannoness hero
- Living Saint

i think you have to reduce a little bit brother Primarch, cause the new codice only have 8 special characters (which is still a lot imho)

Did the new SM codex only have 8 special characters.
The IG one certainly had more than 8, but some where upgrade characters....

The SM Codex has 9 Unique HQ's and 2 Upgrade Characters. And IG has about 12 characters in total.

Re: Ruminating On GK Heroes
I don't really see us getting too much flexibility Brother NF. I think at best we will get a couple of "use as is characters".
GW hasn't really drawn from BL novels in the past, so I do not see it happening here Although I would love to see Alaric represented in the Codex.
A GK Dread hero would be AWESOME!!!!!!!! And considering the GKs don't want to become entombed in Dreads to begin with, he would indeed be a hero amoung heros. This is a possibility if you consider all of the attention Dreads are getting these days..............
