All GK mini's only ordered via the website?
Today went by the shop to pick up my Dread and another squad of GK's. (and to paint there)
But the store owner said that the next order I had in for them would be the last.
GK's, Sob's etc would all no longer be unavailable unless I ordered them via the website.
Can anyone confirm this? And if so... how many Gk's and GKT's should I have on average for a 2500-3000pts game? So I can if necessary quickly order a few before it is too late.

Well, if you're playing a pure GK list, it still depends on your unit choices. My 2500 all GK list has 3 LRs so I only have 12 GKTs (including the GM) and 30 PAGKs.

Yea in a pure GK list your not looking at a huge number of models.
Obviously you want to make sure you have special weapons available for the squads as will be needed, which can be problematic if you have each squad with identifying marks or colours.
This being said, while the shops won't be getting new stock its normally likely that you'll be able to find other GWS or independant retailers selling stuff they still have, so you shouldn't be too desperate for a little while
Also PAGK and GKT are all metals so buying them second hand to strip back can be reasonable value for money depending on the price and the amount of effort it takes.

On the Australian GW site it appears that sisters of battle are no longer sold in their tactical squad (10 models), you can only order the blister packs.
So I think this probably means that GW is planning on discontinuing the current DH and WH miniatures (or at least boxed sets). This is probably to save money in manufacturing by using the machines normally used for WH and DH on other higher demand models.
It probably means that GW is nearing completion of the rough drafts of DH and WH miniatures and rules.

Re: All GK mini's only ordered via the website?
The fact this means we may get a new codex is nice, the fact I'll be out of easily obtained resources for my GK cravings is not
Aah well I put in a final order. My army is quasi complete (but not yet fully painted by a longshot!) and when my last order comes in I should have:
A LR, 2x Dread, A GM, Stern, 3 GKT's with Psycannons, 3x GKT squad, 5x GK squad, some GK support weapons (Incins, Psycannons etc). If I want to raise the numers I can always add a LR later on. (or some rumoured new units in a year or so)

Looks like you're in good shape for a pure GK army
Going heavy in GKTs can easily rack up the points. It's a good thing though IMO. My 2000 pt list has 10 GKTs total (GM + 4 ret and a 5-man GKT elite squad). Having 2 hard hitting units (in addition to having 2 LRs and a dread) takes a lot of pressure off my 3 7-man PAGK squads

Yeah I plan to field a longdistace GKT unit with 2 Psycannons. And a barebones GKT unit led by another GM or Stern put in an LR for quick assault goodness.

Re: All GK mini's only ordered via the website?
If your local stores no longer have GK's your best bet may be to call up any and all nearby stores and see if you can't make a special trip or have them send stuff to you through the mail.
Another venue to try is to contact the Warstore (although I'm a big supporter of buying from your local game store), they may have a few things left in stock.
But yea, this very well may be your last chance to buy GK's and SoB without ordering from GW until 2011 = /
Good omen? We'll cetainly find out...
If you can't find any in either of these locations don't worry about, check on ebay, or your local gaming groups.

I just hope new GK's will be very compatible with the old ones. No different sizes or a redesign of the look.
Unlikely... but one never knows.

This is exactly what I am worried about aswell
Because we have been SOO long without any attention I find it hard to believe that our models will nor be significantly different. I know that the new minis will more than likely be fantastic, but it will be unfortunate if they are not compatible with the existing range.
Just out of curiosity, why is ordering GKs an issue? They are pretty reliable aren't they?

Re: All GK mini's only ordered via the website?
Brother Constantine, it isn't so much a question of whether or not GW is reliable in customer service/ getting the product out there to the consumer. As they have always done a great job in this dept. My concern is that with the possibilty of a new codex coming over the horizon, if GK box sets and single mini's could have their production suspended temporarily to produce the new models/ print new books (if this is indeed the case).
For example I knew that I only needed another box of terminators to fill out my theoretical 2k list, and was something much needed for my larger 2.5k possible Ard Boyz list. I called up my local stores and was able to get the last box of Termies in the area (great success!).
While I don't believe that GW will stop all production on GK's, as many people buy GK's for conversions/ because they look so darn cool- it's merely a precaution in case they pull production to make room for the creation of other ranges such as the fabeled new Dark Eldar.
On a side note, I've been thinking- about GW's promise to update all codex's prior to a 6th Edition release. The last time GW had all the book just about updated was back in 3rd edition, where you saw the campaign rule books and specialty games such as BattleFleet Gothic. I'm hoping that if they succeed in their lofty goal of releasing all of the updated books, we came hopefully see an expansion in 40k in the venerable older games, and campaign books again.

The main reason for stocking up now is if you can find them at a bargain price (lower than shop prices) and you expect to expand your army quite a bit.
I know I'm seriously considering trying to get a few boxes of SoB for my WH army because they are looking hard to come by, and stuff only gets more expensive after its OOP

Most likely the old DE on the other hand will end up dirtcheap when a new line comes out for them. (unless the 'collector's edge' enters play)
Still... rather would keep the old GK and the new uniform/intercompatible.

A little light on the subject from a late and distant response. If you have a bank account, you can apply for Ebay/ Paypal and get some for cheaper than the one on the GW site(just be mindful of the totals including postage). I'm not advertising for Ebay, but if my "wants" is outwieghs my reason of "need" I simply order from the store. In this case since they don't stock it in the GW stores, I order through ebay. Also try to check on the classifieds or other forums to see if some gamers are selling there GKs a little used but with some fresh paint and way less than full price, you can't really go wrong.

The old DE stuff is horrible generally though
The old (current) GK stuff is quite good.
I use wayland games for big purchases and my local GWS for smaller stuff since its about 40% off the retail price to get it sent from the UK
