In my opinion GK are another SM chapter, because they are space marines. But just because GK are a space marine chapter it is not necessarily a bad thing, merely a description of what they are. For example take 2 people, both of them are humans, but one person is vastly supperior in every aspect. In the end they are still humans but one of them is better. That is exactly what the GKs are to other space marines. They are all space marine chapters but GKs are just supperior and permanently attached to the Ordo Malleus. Custodes cannot be compared to SM or GK because they are supperior to both and are more like slightly weaker Primarchs than space marines.

As for specialists, I am pretty sure that GKs have them (e.g. apothecaries, librarians and chaplains) but they are not in the codex for balance reasons. I think they are all appropriate in the GK chapter. Whilst a GK GM has the skills of all three specialists he may consider those tasks too menial to deserve his attention and thus they would be carried out by their appropriate specialist.

I see all three as essential to the operation of the chapter. GK Librarians would task themselves to managing the vast information held on Titan and apothecaries would retrieve fallen GK. Whilst GK have unshakable faith in the Emperor, a chaplain still has the purpose in leading prayers and worship, much like a priest leading a service for religious fanatics.

I would love to see GK chaplains and apothecaries in a new codex for HQ and retinue units.

Primarch your explanation is one reason why I think we shouldn't all take the codex as 100% cannon.

technically we dont really need techmarines as most things a grey knigt fights either kills him or he kills them and they have anything they require so the adeptus mechanus would do a special delivery thing. scratch wouldn't they. scratch
