Greetings Brothers,

I am Brother Pilate, I am brand new to the Warhammer 40K universe and have decided to start an all Grey Knights Daemon Hunters army. I hope this forum will help me to first and foremost make intelligent decisions in my army composition, learn effective tactics in my first few games, and improve my strategy after I have emerged victorious against the chaotic foe. I could use some assistance in starting a new force, what would be a good unit to pick up the next time I swing by GW? I'll start with an HQ of Grey Knight Terminators I suppose, and after that, well, I'll be back for suggestions. Thank you in advance my brothers, and may we all find favor in the Emperors all seeing eyes.

Welcome Brother Pilate, it is always a good to add more ranks to the Grey Knights! I wish you a fond stay, and I know all your questions shall be answered.

As for starting out, getting a Grey Knight Terminator box is always good. Then, a box of Grey Knight troops, which will give you a Justicar and an incinerator. To make a decent force for 1000 point games, you'll be wanting to pick up another box or two. Once you've got that, buying a few Grey Knight Psycannons and extras to fill up your force.

Once you have your HQ and Terminators, and two sets of Grey Knight troops * I recommend squads of 7-8, one squad with two incinerators and one with two psycannons can be particularly ruthless* you will no doubt want to bring some heavy anti armor to the field. Getting a Dreadnought, or if your willing to pay a bit, a Grey Knight Dreadnought from Forgeworld, will help out a lot. A Landraider or Landraider Crusaders icing on the cake, and most people field two landraiders at 1500-2000 point when playing competitive Grey Knights.

But, remember, our models are metal *pewter* and are VERY expensive. It's best to get your HQ, and proxy your army with stand in's *borrowing a friends space marine army or something* to get a really good feel for them. Slowly, you can accumulate your Grey Knight strike force. I am sure our other Brothers here will assist you as well, if you have any questions be sure to ask!

Bang for buck I'd get a single terminator in a blister pack with the weapon you want, and then two boxes of normal GK's.
Best bet is just undercoating and basecoating them all together, and working from there.

If you aren't too worried about spending and wanted to get a more extensive army what I did was find a discount Warhammer store online and ordered 3 boxes of PAGK's, a box of GKT, Stern, and 3 blisters of two normal PAGK.
Gives two a GK squad of 5 with one BC model, and three squads of 7 normal PAGK with 1 incinerator in each squad.

The best idea if get an idea what you want your army to look like at say 750 points or 1000, and buy the models you'll need.
