1500 pts VS CSM in Hong Kong Empty 1500 pts VS CSM in Hong Kong

I played my 3rd and last game in Hong Kong yesterday vs a 1500 pt Nurgle Marines army. It was another spectacular game and I had the pleasure of meeting another very professional player (who, btw, is planning to start a GK army Very Happy ) This is the first time I'm trying out my 1500 pt list and this game made me realize certain "truths" about my list LOL (you'll understand why)

This batrep will be summarize as I will have to check out of my hotel shortly and do not have the chance to put together the pics and sort out the turns (remember, I can't access our forum from the ship anymore).

Nurgle list
HQ - demon prince w/ wings, Warp Time
EL - chaos dread w/ 2 CCW
TR - 7 x plague marines (pf, 2 meltas, rhino)
TR - 7 x plague marines (pf, 2 metlas, rhino)
TR - 7 x plague marines (pf, 2 p-guns)
TR - 7 x plague marines (pf, 2 p-guns)
HS - defiler w/ bc and 2 CCW
HS - 1 x obliterator
HS - 1 x obliterator

GK list
HQ - Rivan w/ mc-nfw, p-cannon, si, ph, hh + 4 GKTs (1 p-cannon, 1 TH&SS)
TR - Squad Armael: 7 x PAGK w/ targeter
TR - Squad Raguiel: 7 x PAGK w/ targeter
TR - Squad Uriel: 7 x PAGK w/ targeter
HS - GK dread ancient Garius w/ TWLLC, DCCW w/ 'cinnie, ea
HS - LR Sanctus Fidelis w/ ea, db, sl

Mission: Seize Ground (4 objectives)
Deployment: Pitched battle
Roll-off: My opponent won and elected me to go first (rats!!)

After deployment, I knew I had to try and reduce the big threats that my opponent fielded right off the bat. However, extremely bad rolling only saw 1 obliterator go down. It was not until around the 3rd turn that I managed to immobilize the defiler & destroy its bc (effectively making it useless). Both rhinos were destroyed but they were halfway or more to the objectives by then. More importantly, my LR was immobilized as well. This really hurt my mobility. Up unto this point I was managing the conflict even though he had superior numbers but what put him over the top was the 12" movement of his DP. He jumped from one point to one point, avoiding my GM and targeting my PAGKs. Needless to say, the PAGKs can't stand up to the demon prince. Moreover, he rolled straight 5's and 6's for his warp time for 4 turns! It was pretty much impossible for me to stop it w/ my ph (I have to beat his score right? Evil or Very Mad). At one point, I even used 1 squad as bait for his DP to assault and I was hoping to tie him up at least just 1 round and give my GM time to make it over and squash the damned thing. However, my opponent went 12" the opposite way and lined up to target my other squad (too far for my GM to help). This really showed my opponent's skill and generalship. He completely outmaneuvered me! My esteemed opponent handed me my first loss with pure GKs in 5th ed (GK - 1, CSM - 3) Very Happy

It was a good loss though because the game was really decided by clever tactics. The DP stayed away from my GM and caused so much damage that it was pretty much the main reason I lost. It killed off 2 PAGK squads, immobilized the LR and destroyed the dreadnought. Definitely his character of the game.
The game reminded me of just how hard it is for our GKs once we lose our (already few to begin with) mobility options. In hindsight, things would have been very different if I had fielded 2 LRs. Another lesson learned for me: I would rather have squads w/ 1 or 2 less models but have the capability of taking them where they need to be in a hurry if I had to.

Again, overall an awesome game! And like I said, my opponent is starting his GK army (because he looks forward to the challenge) and we might see him in the forum soon (I gave him the website).

I am sorry that you saw defeat, but at least it was against what sounds like a worthy opponant, AND you were able to learn from it. So is it going to be 2 LRs from now on?

That is terrible; the cowardly Daemon Prince dancing from squad to squad! It really is a shame we don't have more mobile Grey Knights *Bikes, anyone?*

All the same, it sounds like a truly enjoyable and fun game! With defeat, we only grow so much stronger, and from it build! I wish you safe voyage back home Rivan.
