Another Brother Joins the Fold...
Greetings and salutations, everyone! I'm Doomaflatchi, and I found these forums by consulting the Emperor's Tarot, using its modern codename "Google". I played WH40K back in the days of the early 90's, but fell out of it for a long time. However, as I got older, my gaming addiction caught up with me, and I found myself coming back to the game in its modern 4th Ed. incarnation. I play pure Grey Knights, and love the tactical aspect of the few elite against many.
Let's see, a little about myself... I'm a video game designer for Gearbox Software, a published author, and a student of military history and tactics. I came to these forums looking for a community to help support my addiction and to bounce ideas off of, and from my initial browsing you guys seem to be a really great bunch.
So I'm here, for better or for worse. May the Emperor guide my keyboard to add my opinions where they are constructive, and may I be his sword against the flamer and his hammer against the spammer. I am the point of His paintbrush, I am the green stuff about His powerfist! I am the bane of His illiterate foes, and the woes of the unpunctuated! I am the end!

Welcome aboard. Published author, eh? That explains why your army history was so well-written. If it's a novel you've published we're all expecting our limited edition signed and numbered copies please and thank you.
Tactics: All good in theory, all gone to hell in practice.
Re: Another Brother Joins the Fold...
Heheheh... nah, just short stories so far. I have a novel in the works, but each time I think I've got it worked up enough to be written, some part of it sticks out as glaringly childish, and I have to re-do the whole thing. It's very frustrating.

Welcome to the forum and...... did you say you were a games designer.... a video games designer....
I want to learn that stuff but totally suck at coding and stuff.
What can someone like me (19 year old male whos gone to painting, painting walls, school) and has a great interest in the video games business.
I would like some tips, is there a way to not know any coding and programming and still work as a games developer?
Now i'm gonna finish the sentence.
.... enjoy your stay!

There are, in fact, several ways into the industry that have nothing to do with writing code. Try looking into the art aspect of the game -- I have a feeling that, if you have the attention to detail to paint miniatures, you might enjoy doing some 3D modeling.
I personally specialize in Level Design, where my more broad-spectrum sense of creativity can really work to the fullest, focusing not on a single aspect but instead on how many elements work together to create a setting.
Just some initial thoughts. If you have any other question, let me know, and I'll do my best to give you all the information I can.

You could try your hand at concept art, but I'm not sure if you can work with computers if you do that, it's mainly ideas for setting and models the game will use(I think), is that right Doomaflatchi?
Also, welcome to the forum!

Re: Another Brother Joins the Fold...
Well, if i got to learn how to use one of those more awesome 3D modelling programs i might be able to do something, one thing that bothers me is that stuff i do on the computer (Like painting in flash) looks horrible compared to what i do on a paper with a pencil, (Then it's just bad :p )
Saw that you could buy some thing that laser targeted (Or something) a real object and put it into a 3D program, resulting that you only had to put a real life object in front of it to get a 3D model of the object ready to use in games and stuff.
If so, one could model with greenstuff maybe and get 3D models for games that way!
Would be awesome with a grey knight game.
