I normally pick up large amounts of models, and leave with a light wallet Razz

Seems just like courting, but in most cases a better investment, I mean the models aren't gonna decide your not such a good catch and leave!

Don't tell my fiancee I said that or I'm dead

Yea weren't we talking about those Mythical Creatures called girls?
They are about as common as a primarch in the GWS stores.

That being said theres normally heaps of mothers trying to drag their small boys out by their hair, and the occasional GF looking very uncomfortable, almost asif thinking "its bad enough he does it, but now I'm surrounded by weirdos!"

My fiancee and me have found a balance, when she wants me to have a quick trip through the shop, she buys me something, otherwise she goes shopping elsewhere. Works quite well Razz

Nice.
Mine just makes fun of me being a nerd. But she secretly loves it. tongue
Then again she gets annoyed when I spend more time on my minis then her. Understandable, I suppose.

I knew a few girls who actually collected and played w40k, but that was a while back and now they have other things to do... like their hair and nails, etc... all the things to supposedly please us.
This one girl had a SOB army and she actually kicked butt!

Re: Girls?

Well I know alot of people when I was younger where very dubious about Warhammer 40k, and said it was a very 'nerdy' kind of hobby.
Could actually get quite a lot of flak over it at that time.

But as a hobby it teaches alot of things, whether you primarily paint, play or just tinker.

Guys generally split into many different social groups with different focus's and that leads to a bit more freedom, while there seems to be alot more pressure on girls and woman to simply do all the normal things (I think this would actually come more from other woman than specifically from men, most woman are far more judgemental of other woman, while with men its more of a fair go attitude, just my opinion, sorry if its a bit sexist).

Now when I say I still collect and paint I actually get quite a bit more respect (probably because people are more afraid to piss me off) which is a nice change. Even if I meet a guy who would never collect himself they do me the courtesy of feigning interest, or actually taking real interest.
I don't mind if they talk about me behind my back as long as it never gets back to me Smile

Just judging from my sister, and fiancee though they seem to feel the need to comply with all the normalsees (making up words ftw) and often give up what they are interested in to just jump on the bandwagon. I'm too much of a bastard and far too selfish to do that myself.

I guess its ironic, all the woman fighting for freedom have swapped being stuck at home for a brand new set of equally freedom stealing ideals, which are even more heavily inforced by each other, and now they can't really try and shrug off these limitations or they seem to be going against woman everywhere.
Its just a male perspective but thats how i see it.

Waoh, that's getting quite deep into sociology.
Let's remember to reinforce the fact that this is a generalisation, and does not represent all women.

As a race, we tend to be very competitive. Not sure if it is part of our natural instinct or if we are educated to be competitive. My gut tells me a bit of both. Women tend to compete in looking their best. I see it all the time, when I go to clubs. Women looking at one another up and down. I'm sure some guys do it too, but as a general rule we dont really care about our appearance and feel that people should accept us for what and who we are. Then again, that's how I perceive myself and my friends. So it's hard to judge a worldwide population, as every culture is bred and acts in different ways.

I'm still careful in who I tell about my hobby with 40K. Especially when you have a career and are meant to act grown up... or something. Even once in a while when i tell someone, they give me that look that says "Waoh, you're such a nerd". My responce is "Yeah, but I also ride a powerfull sportsbike, have a hot girl, a career, and like extreme sports and metal. It's just that I also have a penchant for strategy, sci-fi and a blood splattered gothic background filled with a swarm of raving maniacs wielding chainsaws and flamers, and Commisars shooting people in the knees for looking sideways at a quick exit from that said swarm. tongue

Haha true.
I can't stress how much of a generalisation it is, but you pretty much hit the nail on the head with your summary - woman mainly seem to concentrate on looking good (both physically and in what activities they do) while guys are more "accept me or not doesn't bother me much". That being said guys can have areas where they feel the need to bignote themselves in other ways, so its probably pretty equal, plus there seems to be a younger generation of males who can't see the distinction between male and female identity issues *cough* emo *cough*.

I guess the thing is with guys your social group determines what they feel is important, while for woman looks is always a huge consideration.... funnily enough the older I get the less and less looks seem to pale in comparison for other things.
If I had a dollar for every time a female friend commented on another womans looks I'd be a rich man, that being said if I also commented I'd be dead rich. And by dead I mean DEAD.

Haha, just pointing out why there are less women in hobby stores. Smile
Yeah I know, what's the deal with Emos. It's like a goth gone wrong! I remember the good old goth/dark alternative people in my day would be thrashing around in the streets and ruling the cemetaries. tongue, but now they're replaced by emos who sulk in dark alleys trying to cut themselves with plastic spoons.

But hey, we're not much better... listen to us, we're b*tch*ng about how emos are. Lol Very Happy

Yea I have to say I mourn the day of good ole honest goths haunting the streets and staircases everywhere I went.

All the emo's make me want to carry around a stormbolter to put people out of their misery.

I guess I'm a typical human Razz biased and discriminatory.
