Finally made the jump!
Finally made the jump!
I finally made the jump and chose my 2nd army. Bought the Daemonhunters codex and the last GK blister in the store. ^__^
I have some Chaos Termies and CSM's to paint and a Rhino and my BL army is fully complete. Then I'll turn my attention to the GK's.
I plan to give them bases and give extra attention to the quality of hte painting, going a bit 'further' than I have gone before.
Of course, given the price of the models I'll take my time but than... my painting can be awfully slow anyway.

Re: Finally made the jump!
As for piccies not yet. They are tabletop quality though, don't expect much of them. My Anima Tactics miniatures are better painted usually.
As for what I have 3 Rhinos, a Predator, 3 Oblits, 4 Lascannon Havocs, a HUGE load of CSM's, a custom dread, Landraider, HORDES of Chaos Termies, some Lords.
As you can see I'm a fluffy player not a tournie one. I just love Termies. By Christmas I hope to have finished the last minis/rhino that are lingering unpainted. And the 2 GK's, after that I'll focus on them. I do plan to make one Chaos Termie Lord + Abaddon conversion as centerpiece of my BL force, but that's all I'll be adding to the BL.
And yes the huge detail is part of the appeal. I already ordered the GK omnibus to deepen out my fluff knowledge of them.
Although Dreads are no longer seen as very effective for them apparently, I'm bent on at least including one. And of course a LR for my Grand Master + Termies.
Basically I'll first plan to paint some blisters and than buy 2 Squads of GK's. After that the termies and after that the vehicles. (or first a single Inquisitor)
Not very competitive but fun to field most likely.
Expect me to post some questions painting wise for the GK's in a month and a half or so. ^__^
Btw... this forum seems to have difficulties remembering my password. I initially was Darthvegeta800 but never managed to get it reactivated.
I returned as Darth Vegeta. (with the beautiful ebay offer mentioned in a thread i foolishly cancelled due to some r/l probs) Yet upon return my password was impossible to input. And I had to change it again.
Very odd.
In any case I'll browse the forum a bit for now. Read up on GK tactics.
I heard 'water warrior' is somewhat ineffectual in 5th edition, is this correct?

I can only speak from my own experiences. I consider myself primarily a disciple of the water warrior philosophy and have played 6 5th ed games to date using a pure 1750 GK list 5 out of the 6 games (1 game was at 2000pts). By the grace of the emperor, I haven't lost yet (5 wins, 1 draw). Although I've only played agains CSM, IG, SoB and SM so far
That being said though, I think a lot of players become so wrapped up with the "water Warrior" mentality that their play becomes restricted by what they think they can or cannot do as "water warriors". As far as I'm concerned, I use whatever tactics I need to win, whether it may seem like its more fire, earth or air. I think the key is knowing when and how to use these elements that actually defines a "water warrior". Just my two cents...

For the Grand Master, is Stern usually used or just the leader of the GK Termie box?

It's up to your preference. I've seen people use either one as is while some people (like me) do a little converting to personalize their GM. I used a BC model from the box and just did some personal tweaking on it.

*nods* Not that competent with greenstuff. So I'll probably have to use Stern or a regular model myself.

Stern is a nice model.
I myself used a normal GKT and added some cloth thingies.
Result was top notch..... back then, still looks ok though.
Beeing a nice model and all, but i get the feel that the BC model is a bit..... he feels like he doesn't have higher rank than BC.
I hope you understand my feeling.
Use Stern or a normal GKT with addons, that will produce good GM's.

Okies. I'll probably opt for Stern.
Doesn't matter too much for now. I still even have to order more GK's.

I use a BC right now because thats what I painted first, Stern looks great (have one base coated), but a converted Hector Rex would be the best

Yeah if I would play GKs I would opt to make the GM out of a regular GKT,but thats just me wanting that everyone has a helmet in my army.I just have to have all my guys helmet for some reason,I guess it adds a bit mystisicm to the army.
But from a subject to randomness:
Vegeta what does the scouter say about the GKs awesomeness level?
Darth Vegeta:"ITS OVER 9000!!!!"
