Unless you're confidant you'll be fighting several greater deamons, I would drop the grandmaster down to a brother captain for a 1000pt army list. And use the points to buy some more GKs in power armour. - Thats just me. I'll post my lists when I finally decide on them lol.

For the Bodyguard I meant that if the unti got shot with a heavy bolter you could choose to kill off the termies and not your commander. The commander is better in close combat than any other unit, I don't mind my commander dying just as long as he kills something before he does.

The thing is, I only have the 10 GKIPA and the 5 Termies so I need to have a GM, I use him to draw the enemy out of positoin whilst the teleporters appear behind the enemy.

I was debating over two lists the first one is experimental (I enjoy fielding a grandmaster...and thrakka is supposed to show up so a force weapon probably wouldnt hurt) and the second list is tried and true but lacks the grandmaster. Any opinions on which would be better?

I like the second list for the overall higher body count in the squads. A Grand Master for the loss of only 3 models is actually a decent trade-off though. May I suggest to drop the searchlights and auspexes in list 1 and try to give a Justicar or two melta bombs instead?

With only one Land Raider the list seems a bit light on the a/t side. Especially at that points level. I'd at least drop one of the extra weapons on the LR and give your Justicars some melta bombs. Maybe even swap in one Thunderhammer and SS into each of your GKT squads. You might be in deep ka-ka if you lose the LR early on.

I would give the Psycannon to the Grand Master instead of the Terminator in his retinue because of his BS 5, but it may be better to spread the points around so you don't loose a extremly high costing model like the G-M would be with the Psycannon.

What would you say were some of the drawbacks of your list that lead to your placing? Right away to me it seems you have quite a low model count for 1850 points.

First up: welcome to the forum. Overall I like the list. The only thing I'm not really keen on is the build of the retinue of your Inquistor. You have him kit out for close combat but with only 1 Combat Servitor for in-close support. The plasma gun is risky as an unlucky overheat will kill him instantly. I'd drop it and upgrade to another Combat Servitor. I'm unsure about the Priest. I know you can have one in a WH army but as far as know not in a DH one. I'd change him for an Acolyte anyways. Bottom line, an all-shooty Inq and ret would probably be way more effective. What two psychic powers were you planning on for your Inquisitor or is the Familiar just there for the Initiative boost?
How'd you get a third melta gun in your IST squads? Is the Vet taking both a melta and plasma gun? Definitely make your PAGK Fast Attack for more flexibility at set-up if anything.
I'm not up to snuff on IG but can you just take two squads and w/o the Patoon HQ? It would be nice also to have some lascannons and/or missile launchers worked in somehow.
The rest of your list to me looks really solid.

Hmm... I was considering converting the Priest into an acolyte, if plasma pistols in your and my(eventual) experience are bad i can always leave him with his bolt pistol:), the psychic powers i was considering were: scourging, Word Of The Emperor and sanctuary(to fight against daemons). Yes i can have 3 meltas and 1 plasma for the ISTs , i forgot to mention that i have 2 veterans with bolt pistols/hellpistols and power weapons. Errrr...The codex stated that i need 2 troops choices, so i assumed 2 squads would be enough, even if i do lack anything, i could pop by the shop near my school(apparently, not many ppl in singapore like IG), as for the command squad, i'm getting it later on in the year(a LRC, 10 seraphims and Senti squadrons too).
I also forgot to mention that even aft 5th ed comes out, my friends are still gonna stick too 4th ed. We will be playing Apoc games in the meantime until we deceide to get 5th ed.

I would like to have toughs on my 1500 pts mechanized inquisition list. I am not maximizing potential, but using models I have and planned to buy. I feel my main game size will be 500 pts combat patroll. Land riders and Chimera will be scratch builded.

How about taking meltaguns instead of plasma for Ist? I am not too interested low range of melta's, but they should be save inside land raiders.
