Grey Knight Controversy and Clarification

Post by Nausaden on Wed Oct 28, 2009 11:37 pm

Brothers, it has been brought to my attention a multitude of times by rivals and the like a series of questions about the Grey Knights and the foes they face. I was wondering if some of you could assist and help with a detailed list of answers for these frequently brought up questions, that are more lore than gameplay.

-The Shrouding: I always get mocked for this rule, as they are in typically large, fairly bulky and shiny armor.

- Why exactly Daemons, namely Slaneesh daemonettes and the like are evil *I know, silly, but I still get people asking such ridiculous questions*

-A common statement being that Grey Knights are simply brainwashed and have no mind of their own

-The level of a Grey Knight as far as psyker power is concerned *I'd say Libarien level*

I am sure there are more that I can't recall, but I am drowned in these ridiculous questions all the time, more likely as jokes than anything serious I suspect. Probably because most of my rivals play such disturbing races such as Chaos, Dark Eldar, etc. and I am typically on the end of hunting them down and exterminating them. I'll be sure to post any other absurd queries that I get, but it'd be nice to have a list of thorough answers to toss back. Cheers!

- The shrouding can be easily explained as the armor is darn shiney that the glare obscures' and enemy's ability to fire at it. (the fluff about this question is that the GK's have different prayers, and incense that they burn creating a smoke like effect that cover's their forces- think smoke launchers for infantry).

- Daemons can be explained as evil as they totally stole a cookie from the cookie jar (In reality their hellspawn from another dimension seeking innocent souls- and cookes dwelling within cookie jars).

-Grey Knights are someone what brainwashed so they can withstand the myriad of horrors lurking within the galaxy (mainly be being forced to listen to the horrid voice acting abundant in the game Soulstorm again and again). But most definatly have minds of their own- GK's are not a horde army so they rely on the ability of individuals to react and overcome.

-The fluff within the codex pretty much states that the GK's are at about the librarian level, using their squad leaders (whom are said to surpass this) as a channel for their powers (So there about at a level between Tigrus and that kid from the Shining).

Hope that helps to settle some questions =)
The worst questions I have been asked have been:

1 WOW Grey knights?! Is that a new codex?

2 Jeez are your land raiders buy one get one free?

3 Enemy player: You know there are newer codexes' and armies out, you should probably try one. It's sorta like going from putting around in a bi-plane, and going to a F-22.
2 hours later.....
Enemy player: How did you beat me!?

-Cease

LOL! cheers

Oh Ceasarian, very well put! I especially love your comment on the Soulstorm announcer...what was that guy thinking when he narrated that game's campaign? affraid

And I bloody knew they were stealing cookies from the jar; their lies couldn't fool me!

Tigrus and the kid from The Shining Laughing !!

I get that confused and puzzled look when I pull out my Knights; which typically results in my foe saying "You do know its a 1000 points, why do you only have 3 squads of Space Marines?", which I have to sigh and explain that they aren't just space marines. Brutal purging commences directly afterwords. Twisted Evil

Our Landraiders SHOULD be buy one get one free. lol!

All grey knights are powerful psychers they just manifest it differently, ie in their own defences (against corruption) and by SHROUDING! Thats right two birds with one stone.
Only a librarian level psycher would be considered for GK training, and only the most powerful survive!

All chaos daemons feed on extreme emotions from other races. Daemonettes represent lust and all the perverted acts that can accompany it. Just remind people slaanesh was created by the eldar at a time when they used to eat their own kind, have gruesome sex parties involving death and torture and many other unspeakable things.

The brainwashing thing is just stupid SM players who think thats what happens to space marines and assume its the same for GK's.
Its a commonly held beleif for many players (the stupid kind imo)

the codex actually explains all of this under the special rules. The psychic powers cloud and confuse the enemies mind for shrouding.

the Grey knights are part of the inquisition, specifically the "ordos malleus" (DaemonHunters) given the task of guarding the empire from the perils of chaos and it's daemons.

Grey knights are super strictly trained, but not brainwashed per say. Think master chief or some such person that just lived and breathed their job, but still had individual personalities. the individual grey knights still have personal histories and coats of arms they wear into battle......

All grey knights are psychic to some extent. the level is up to each grey knight and their advancement.

and we really only have a LR or dreadnought if we want a weapon over s6. they can live with it! lol

Very Happy Thank you Brothers Zealadin and MJS! Your clarifications are truly supreme. It is very helpful to have these reminders. With such foul Daemons of the warp, such horrors are to be remembered to be used against the enemy's of mankind.

It might be heresy, but I still do not have the DH codex in physical manifestation! Perhaps sooner or later I can cough up the cash, but knowing that our new codex is not all too far off its a bit annoying.

Depends how you count not too far off!
Dark Eldar is before us by all accounts and its looking like mid-late 2010 now, which might place us anywhere from end of 2010 to 2011.

Brother Nausaden, I know it is tempting to put your hard earned cash on more GK models and stuff but you really need to get your codex. It will be awhile before we get our new one and the knowledge you gain in absorbing our codex will only help you play better Very Happy

Very true. Dark eldar will be before us, and the tyranids codex is getting close to complete as well. The codex is so important. If you can buy models, codex first!

How do you know all the rules without the codex? *cough* PDF *cough* Razz

Anyways, I was under the impression that the shrouding was like the shiney Jesus on top of a hill light radiating around him sort of thing. But then I saw that the name was the shrouding...

Yeah, the GKs shrouding is psychic in nature, that's why opponents that have psykers can re-roll the dice and accept the second result instead.
